"Saturday… Saturday, Saturday…"
It`s not just Elton John who likes Saturdays apparently.
Ian Isaac nipped round in a nett 68 to win the Saturday Cup last weekend in typical April conditions; sun, rain, showers, you name it. Plenty of pars and not too many big numbers were the order of the day giving Ian a second 'Major' Trophy since he joined in late 2013. For his trouble Ian has been cut from 14 to 12.8. Runner up was Cadet, Cassidy Steffens with a nett 69 off 5 and a welcome return to form for Andy Lee, who was third on a count back with nett 70.
Pastures new for Stew..
Assistant Head Greenkeeper, Stewart Rogers, has taken the plunge and taken up a new post as Head Greenkeeper at Ingrebourne links, a new venue just inside the M25 circle near Lakeside.
Stewart spent 7 years here at Orsett and now has the opportunity to put his years of experience to good use at his new Club. At the moment it`s so new there are no holes to play! (Nice easy start then Stew!) No rain dances though Stewart please to get the grass growing. The course is due for play later this season so then he will no doubt be busy.
Good luck Stewart, we hope you enjoy it as much as working here at Orsett.
Long bunker shots
Following on from last week's tip on bunker shots, members have been asking about the dreaded, most difficult shot in golf, the 'Long Distance Bunker Shot'.
Here are some do's to hit a precise shot
Shortening the hold on the handle, cuts down on contact with the sand
Move the ball forward in your stance, try to hit the ball fractionally on the "up"
Make a ¾ backswing, fewer moving parts will give better control
Keep as still as possible, will gain stability in the sand.
Avoid leaning back, a sure way to chunk the shot!
Any problems click here to get in touch and let me help you hit these like playing from a tee.
PING Club Fitting Day
Could PING be your thing? If so we have an afternoon fitting session just around the corner. Thursday, 28 May starting at 3pm until 7pm. So if you would like to be fitted by Morgan for either the G30 metals or irons, or ladies Rhapsody 2015 style here`s your chance. Each time slot is 40 minutes and Morgan will organise your lofts, lies and hopefully increase your length!
Fast is PING's latest buzz word, and their fitting slots are golf's equivalent to Usain Bolt in the 100 metres, they go quick! Please contact me ASAP if this is something you would like to do. If not, remember I have the GC2 launch monitor and the PING N-Flight software available ,you just don`t get Morgan !
The Cadets open their bid to win the Annual County Youth shield with a home tie against Rochford, current English Under 18 Champions. 'Will's thrillers' are looking forward to a close game.
Will said, "On paper they are much better than us but home advantage will keep it close. Our team are really looking forward to playing them, we lost 3-2 at Rochford last year, we have the same players a year older and better, we want to make that count."
Also The Club 'stars' are in action in the Thornton Cup against Maylands this Sunday. It is the County first team match basically. We have a strong side again with a perfect mix of youth and experience. Could this be Orsett's year? Time will tell but plenty of good golf is expected, not just from this side but the cadets as well.
Why not come and support the teams, the Cadets start at 2pm and Thornton Cup is both morning and afternoon. They would appreciate your support.
It's the Joyes Trophy this Saturday, last year's winner didn`t get a mention, good luck this weekend Rob!
