Should have saved an Oscar for Jose…
With plenty of them being waved around recently one should surely be sitting on the Special One's tele at home. Like him or not, Jose Mourinho is full value in an interview and should be considered for the quality of his performances in front of the cameras! It reminded me of a certain Monsieur Cantona talking about trawlers and seagulls. Recently he was fined for speaking his mind regarding refereeing decisions (what`s wrong with that?) so he changed tact by pointing out certain minutes during the game that affected the score line rather than directly point fingers at the poor officiating and said little else. It was unique and typically Jose as was the exalted celebration for winning The Capital Cup last Sunday. Quite clearly not the biggest event on the footie calendar, as Frank Sinclair had no idea how to 'big it up' on the radio Monday morning but it was the first trophy Chelsea had won since the prodigal son returned to The Bridge for his second stint in charge. Perhaps he wanted to show the fans that every win is important and this is the first of a possible treble, so don`t poo poo it. The Premier League is a much better place with the Special One in it surely? Who wouldn`t want him as their manager? He has winner written all over him. Give that man an Oscar!

With Augusta just weeks away, 5 to be exact, why not have a go on our Masters sweepstake? £5 secures a player in the field with multiple ways of winning, even if they have the worst score of the day. Who says you can`t win anything for playing rubbish? You could in our sweepstake! Add a little interest to watching the event unwind. Rory is red hot favourite even with his poor showing in Florida last week. Of course he could win but only because he`s in. You need to be in to wear our green jacket and receive that winning prize!
The Monday after Augusta is our Mizuno fitting day, April 13th. The JPX 850 metals are working really well in many people's hands. As always Mizuno offer great irons but they truly have hit on excellent woods. What with last season's JPX EZ; a high launch, high spin and the 850 a high launch, low spin, shaft options and plenty of simple manoeuvrable technology for everyone. Mizuno have got all the bases covered with the hardware. Exciting times for them no doubt. Even the colour is dominating the talk. So get booked in with us via the Pro shop or by clicking here and let`s see if we can add more distance, more consistency and a bit more fun to your game.
To get you started this season, keep a look out for the opening season deals I`ll be offering on bags, shoes and balls. If you are reading this you will be first to find out about these offers. They won`t last forever, so further opportunities to put premium brand product in play and save money at the same time.
For those looking for a softer ball to play with, how about the new Wilson DX2? Last year it was one of our biggest selling balls made with 40 compression, this season it's 29 compression! It's got great bounce and excellent all year round feel suitable for all standard of player. Perfect for these chilly days at present. At just £16.99 a dozen and a FREE 2 ball pack why not give them a go?
If you and some golfing friends are planning to go on a golf trip somewhere and want to feel part of a team, why not give it some thought to having some shirts made up? A golf branded shirt with your logo or script maybe nicknames on for around £25 each would add to any 'tour' experience. If this is something you think your group may want to try, get in touch with me. Turn around is under 2 weeks, no set up charges either! You will be suitably impressed.
Irish eyes are smiling…
After 7 years without a win and many people writing him off, Padraig Harrington is back among the winners. The genial Irishman who won 3 Majors in two years lost his way, tying himself in knots when trying to perfect the game, has settled back into that steely inner belief all world class players have and got back to believing in his undoubted ability. His win on the US Tour in Florida at the Honda Classic on a sponsor's exemption has opened doors, like a Masters invite next month. Harrington has what it takes to feature there as well. A renowned short game will be essential to keep up with the Tour Bombers, knowing Paddy, he is probably already planning that assault today. Ireland will be heavily represented at Augusta with World No 1 and title favourite, McIlroy, G-Mac and Darren Clarke.
Paul Casey had another strong week and but for a cold putter in the last round this could have been all about him. And what about Poulter? We all know how that back nine felt with a complete chop in more ways than one. He hit more trees and water hazards, I thought he was trying to redesign some of the holes. He is of strong mind and will bounce back I have no doubt. Just avoid standing on the right if you go watch him play in case he hits another of those shanks at any time. It happens to the best of them.
Ireland celebrated long into Sunday evening and probably didn`t get up until the crack of lunch Monday after their comfortable success over England in the Home Nations rugby. They must be undoubted favourites to win the tournament with just 2 games left to play. Ireland have the best outside half in Jonny Sexton. His kicking, tackling and decision making are so much better than all the other team's No 10 put together, Ireland have the mix of youth and experience with players viewing the World Cup as their last hurrah and want to give it their all. They are in no mood to give up their title and a 6 Nations Grand Slam would be fitting for the like of O`Connell, Best and maybe Bowe.
The other matches went against the favourites, with Wales winning in Paris and Italy overpowering Scotland in Edinburgh! This was only Italy's 2nd away win since they made it a 6 nations event. Wales have the Indian sign over France with 5 wins in a row against them. Ireland vs Wales in Cardiff will be a huge game, different styles but similar commitment, full on. If Jonny plays, the Welsh may have to be gracious hosts and just enjoy the post-match craic. Without him it might be different.
Apparently there is some cricket on too in the world, are England taking part?
