Changing The Game "One dream, by one soul, one prize, one goal, a golden chance of what could be a shaft of light that shows the way, who thought a mortal man could create this day. The bell that rings inside that mind now challenge the doors of The R and A." That's what Bryson is doing challenging the rulers of the game and love him or hate him(you'll get to love him eventually) he is making golf truly exciting again, a real shot in the arm,( like that ?) Personally I would only watch the Major events, if Tiger was playing or if a Brit had a chance to win but now, add BAD to that shortlist. It's not just how he's doing it but he even says he's going to try and achieve the goal-setting- none of the cliches sportspeople hides behind in interviews. He truly is a breath of fresh air. Who couldn't wait for him to reach the 6th hole at Bay Hill, the par 5 hole made infamous by John Daly trying to drive the green all those years ago and failing miserably. When other players talk about it or stop and watch, you know he has their attention to what he is doing. Bryson had talked about it as a realistic route and perhaps had he not been in contention on Sunday he may have just lined a little further left than he did. At the weekend he only had 88 and 77 yards to the flag each day for his second shot! How pumped was he on Saturday after his tee shot? All the energy exiting his body like a hammer thrower in the Olympic final. If nothing else, the golfing hierarchy should shake his hand for bringing more peoples interest to golf because his "mad science project" is working. Remember he isn't just a one-trick pony either. He is possibly the best putter on Tour too. Put that together with incredible distance you have most of what is needed in the modern game to be a challenger for top spot in the world. Sunday was cool and drafty, Bryson play wasn`t one dimensional and used his brain, things that lead to Major Championships on your CV. He has even got quicker, no more two-minute putts and so on. From a couple of years ago, I'm certainly a convert! Spare a thought for Lee Westwood, still winless in America and looked like he was swinging in slow motion at times alongside his playing partner. But his experience kept him doing what he does best, fairways, greens and try to make the clutch putts. It was Bryson making putting bombs on the back nine that might have derailed his effort, yet his old Achilles heel pulled the hand brake up at the par-three 14th with a weird three-putt which certainly didn't help. Yet still in it with the two toughest holes to play, "Westy " hit three perfect shots, the last from a filled-in divot and four excellent putts. He didn't crumble. Bryson just matched him and a gutsy 5 footer on the last to win said it all. The "Scientist" has found the magic potion/formula and may have plenty of it in his golf bag for the future. Was it fair Westwood had to play from the divot on the last? Do you think it's a rule that should be changed or left alone? Opinions please and why? Are You Ready? Thoughts have obviously turned to your own golf again. Three weeks from now the clubs will be cleaned, shoes polished and standing by the front door. Now might be a good time to make sure you can actually move. Consider doing some simple stretches, four months off, a couple of swings in the net before teeing off is not a combination for anything but pulled muscles. There are plenty of exercises to attempt online that would be better to follow than me showing you, so please take a look and do a little preparation. Simple hamstring and quad stretches, side bends, body rotations and arm raises will help. Why miss your golf all because you didn't put in that little bit of effort leading up to it? If you plan to swing clubs in the garden, START SLOWLY! Many thanks to those of you who have been already been using the Click and Order service. It`s heartening to know we might be offering our services the way you like them.
The World Of Sport England could do Wales a lovely favour and put the French to the sword Saturday. Bit of a bittersweet outcome whatever the result for many English fans I imagine. Just hope there are no swords missing from the walls at the Palace the next time Prince Harry and his family go for a visit! |
