Love Him Or Hate Him Love him or loathe him, Diego Maradona was arguably THE greatest footballer of any era. He single-handedly carried the Argentine team to win in 1986 and again to the final in 1990. The documentaries of his life recently have been amazing with memories from many of his teammates giving an insight into how good he was. Steve Archibald. anyone remember him playing for Barcelona? Told the story of first meeting him in the changing room, not really believing Maradonas hype. After juggling a ball of socks non stop for three or four minutes and then trying it himself (at home) Maradona went up in his estimation as he couldn`t do it at all!. He scored those two famous goals in one game,(sorry England fans for bringing it up, I was definitely cheering for England that day.) The worst World Cup goal ever and possibly the best World cup goal ever. One could never be admired or forgiven and the other, just incredible on a dreadfully bumpy pitch. Even watching it now, I still expect someone to tackle him. I hate to put them in the same sentence but both Maradona and "The King" George Best passed on the same day of the month. Maradona was a troubled man, the great footballer and the person who just couldn`t accept his football days were over, which led to some very sad days. Why does it seem to happen to football genius`s time and again? |
