Orsett members shine in Essex Amateur Championship.. Orsett were well represented at the recent Essex Amateur Championship, with 8 players taking part. With County events scuppered by this year's events, many players targeted this as something to play in. Usually over 72 holes in a weekend, County changed to 36 holes in one day. After the first round, Orsett was looking good with Callum Newton leading on 69, Zach Chegwidden on 71 and Jamie Benton on 72. Things changed slightly in the afternoon with Callum putting together a competent second round of 74, Jamie didn`t quite match his round from the morning and wasn't helped by THE biggest "Flyer" on his ninth, the 18th which comfortably sailed over the green, clubhouse and finished in the bushes in the car park beyond. which left Zach to try and edge past the posted score of 3 under total. He didn`t quite win, but scored 70 and finished tied 2nd at 3 under as last years winner shot a brilliant second round 66 and edged past them to take the title from what looked like a probable playoff. Great effort boys a tied second and fourth place is good golfing. |
