Gunning blows the field away... Orsett played out their traditional Presidents putter tournament Saturday. In near ideal conditions, warm with hardly any wind the scoring on the softer greens from overnight rain(yes it actually rained last week) was excellent. Both Ladies and gents play in the own event, with the winning Ladies score was by Sue Button with a brilliant 38 points, one point ahead of Val Mathewson on 37 and on form Chris Dobinson,36 respectively. The men's event was just as close with 20 of the first 27 scores all coming from single figure players. But the leading score was from Ryan Gunning on 42 points, who completed his round with 2 amazing pars after realising what score he was on standing on the 16th green. I think the nerves suddenly kicked in! He has been desperately trying to reduce his handicap and the acquisition of a new PING fairway metal according to Ryan made all the difference. "The new five wood made all the difference, I could keep the ball in play from the tee on the dry fairways which gave me a chance to hit some greens. It was so important to be custom fitted as I can move the club pretty quickly for my handicap so the stronger flex and torque made all the difference." Unfortunate runner up, showing some good form was Neil Gale with 41 points off 3 handicap and third place was Carl Vanderhook (4) with 40 points respectively. Congratulations to all the podium finishers that was some excellent golf played. County Order Of Merit Essex held one of their County Order of Merit events last Monday, the 36 hole Michael Bonallack trophy at Thorpe Hall, "The Duke" as he was known and arguably had the best of British Amateur golfers playing record of all time. His achievements are displayed with pride in the Clubhouse. 10 Orsett members went along to compete with Shaun Mills finishing highest place finisher in 5th place on Level par just one in front of Callum Newton. The winner finished on 2 under par for the day, so well done boys, great efforts from all of you. |
