Competition round up Orsett Club Competitions started last week using the new logging system in and a scoring app for the first time. Of course, a few frustrated brows were raised stressing to remember passwords to get in the app! Nearly 100 people were challenged from the Championship tees for the first time since early March. In breezy conditions the scoring was excellent with one of the younger members, Jack Jordan coming up trumps with 40 points just ahead of Peter Aves and Grant Allen respectively. Jack lost a whole shot from 15 -14, nice playing Jack! |
Following quickly behind was the weekend medal, with an option to play either Saturday or Sunday. If it was to avoid the wind then staying at home was your best option. Gusts up to 35 miles an hour were in force at the weekend, choosing the right club or keeping balanced was easier said than done. On Saturday the leading scores were the experienced, Paul Windsor and junior golfer Addison Smith both with net 70! Just behind them was Aron McGregor, which included a Hole in one on the 199 yard 15th. A perfectly struck three quarter 6 iron, two bounces, grip, spin and fell in the hole on the last roll! ( or actually, a bit thin, short of carrying, hitting the back edge of a bunker shooting it forward and to the left up onto the green and going in the right edge of the cup.I guess they all count? |

Sundays winds were even worse, standard scratch went up to 75 from Saturdays 73. The leading scorers were Graham Dunn and Dave Fisk with nett 72 and but for a three-putt on the last, third place Richard Parish would have tied. Since lockdown, rumours of Graham's improvement have been growing, so first opportunity he gets, he takes. Nice playing everyone. With the Clubhouse facilities unwrapping, especially the bar, Orsett is feeling a little like its old self again. The members enjoyed the opportunity to sit and talk over the round with playing partners whilst having a beer and something to eat and catch up with the bar staff, long may it continue. And more good news. Scorecards are now available from the shop to use. Thank you for your patience with this. Many of you just needed a reminder that golf has been a social exercise and nothing more. So why was a card of any use? |
Busy in the shop The shop continues to be extremely busy and that is all down to you, so Thankyou!

So something for everyone. Remember, custom fitting is in full flow as are lessons with both Phil and I.We are now booking well in advance. So please have more than one day and time in mind when booking for yourself.TRY and avoid a day you plan to play as a last-minute call to cancel your lesson is a little unfair on us and others wishing to get some help. Changes pay off for Bryson Bryson DeChambeau’s beefed-up new look has had chins wagging since the restart of the PGA Tour. On Sunday, the added muscle mass delivered its first win. A seven-under final round brought his total to -23 for the week and gave ‘The Mad Scientist’ a three-stroke victory at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The 26-year-old had decided it was time for a change at the back-end of 2019 and put his famed thinking cap (a Ben Hogan-style flat-cap) on to find a solution. The answer, he decided, was to gain muscle in order to drive further.and how much further! On average it was 350 yards through the air, making a 7,300 yard golf course play very short. The talk is ,can he sustain this amount of committment to training, eating and practice to keep that all important speed?Personally had he been playing a narrower course with bigger implications for missing the fair way ,Bryson might have tempered down a little. The important thng is ,he NOW HAS the speed to compete and even raise the bar a little."Bar movers or game changers " tend to be winners and Bryson is definitely a winner. If he continues to explore and control his attitude, who knows what his record could look like come 20 years time? After finishing T3-T6-T8 in the first three events, this week DeChambeau was finally able to sink the critical putts. His driving distance (now No. 1 on the PGA Tour) has proven effective, but this week went to show that you can’t win without good putting.
