We hope you managed to celebrate Easter weekend in some way, shape or form – especially, with an Easter Egg or two. This week’s newsletter is packed with some great features that we think you’ll enjoy. Our weekly quiz continues, there are more drills and challenges for you to try at home, as well as a brilliant video at the bottom of this email. With plenty of time on your hands at the moment and of course we all daydreaming about golf and getting back out there playing. Perhaps now is a good time to use some of this time to think over why your scores aren't as amazing as you would like them to be and how you may consider altering those negative thoughts that get in the way so often. Here are some of the regular things I hear from some of my lessons... - I let all the penalty areas influence my thought process.
- I just expect to hit a bad bad shot, because I always do on this hole.
- I'm the type of player who avoids their least favourite club no matter, if it's a competition or even a social game.
In all my years of playing golf and had The Masters been on we would have definitely seen it happen, the best players stick to their PROCESS or ROUTINE (Depends on where you live)
No matter what era, the greats have learnt that under pressure a good routine is tantermount to hitting the ball towards the target. So why not give yourself just ten minutes each day between now and the end of the "lockdown" to try and build a dependable routine you can learn to trust and not panic about the lake on the right or the top of your backswing position. Here's six steps to success.. - Stand behind the ball and visualise the ball finishing next to the intended target. Avoid eye contact with anything else but the target!
- Make a practice swing that mimics the intended swing you plan to make with a ball in the way.
- Hold the club lightly, many poor shots are caused by tension, a soft grip can reduce this dramatically.
- Believe you are going to be best friends with all your clubs. Believe it or not, they don't actually know who is holding the handle!
- As soon as you take the last look at the target and look back at the ball, start your takeaway. This removes the chances to over think everything.
- Right or wrong outcome? Who knows until the balls stops moving? Totally commit to what you have decided. A tiny bit of doubt and you might as well pack up and head for the bar!
Practice any or all of this routine for just ten minutes each day and by the time we are back out playing consider how positive you will be, how confident in that swing of yours, how excited to play those scary wedge shots and most of all how committed to each shot you became? If you feel that this is something you want to build on when we get back out there, please get in touch and let's get you positively back to golf! Traditionally at The Masters during practice rounds the players all indulge in a bit of fun on the 16th. They all try to skip balls onto the green from the front of the tee. Well here's the Irish version, just a little bit harder... click here to watch. Well here`s what started modern golf off in my opinion and to kick things off,we’re going to look at one of golf’s greatest rivalries! Enjoy the read.
