From The World Of Sport A very Happy New to everyone. I hope Santa was kind to all of you? I’m sure there was too much indulgence over the festive season, so it`s time to get those clubs out and walk off the extra few kilos, courtesy of the mince pies and champagne. Since Christmas there have been some surprises that won`t be found in your Christmas stocking, Scotland reaching temperatures of 17 degrees centigrade last week at 3 am in the morning Michael Van Gerwen lost his World PDC darts Championship to Scotsman, Peter Wright, numerous football teams have sacking and replacing managers, including, Arsenal, Watford and West Ham who have re-employed David Moyes (could it be the year for the Scots?) On the golf front, The PGA Tour started in fabulous Hawaii, with weather more associated with parts of the UK this time of year, wind and rain. Even on this resort course, the importance of putting well made all the difference. All three players in the playoff would have probably been the chosen ones at the start of play, have set their stalls out early priming themselves for no doubt cracks at the Majors. In the end, Justin Thomas won back his title from the holder, Xander Schauffele and the current "bad man of golf" Patrick Reed. Thomas has now won the event three times and getting the reputation as "Mr Hawaii “Amazingly he is now third in the list of most wins at 27 behind, you guessed it, Tiger and Jack. Is this the year he kicks on and adds to his single Major title? Schauffele was testing a new driver, wedges and putter in the bag (there is something in keeping up with technology) and looking for that small edge that gets him a first Major that many have touted him for this year. Patrick Reed, still having to listen to heckling from fans allowed his putter to answer back which got hotter as the week went on and we all know a great putter is a difficult person to beat. Who are you putting your money on for this season's Majors? One of these three or someone else? |
