Back to winning ways just in time… Rory McIlroy showed everyone just what we have all been waiting to see from the Ulsterman since The Players Championship. Rory finally got "hot" with the putter over the weekend at The Canadian Open with a 22 under par total to obliterate the field. His final round 61 looked for all the world like a 59 or better at one time with 300 yard plus drives, laser irons and nonchalant putting. After missing the cut at The Memorial, Rory needed something to spike his game into contention with this week’s third Major at Pebble Beach. Rory is just unstoppable when he gets the putter working! So who will win? With the course being relatively short for championship golf, it brings many more players into the equation. From outside the top ten, how about the likes of Graeme McDowell, Kevin Kisner, Kevin Na, Jim Furyk, or even Englishmen Matt Fitzpatrick and Danny Willett who have both been playing more in America and featuring frequently in the top ten. It truly is an "Open" this week! The course will be so different to the annual hit and giggle AT&T Pro Am in March. The rough will be up, the greens firm and both the poa annua grass and tee times could be a major influence on the result. Poa annua grass gets uneven and bumpy by the end of the day and of course the Pacific winds turn on the tide. As always patience will be so important, looks like it will be a long night in front of the TV come Sunday!
