New rules are in play… There is a buzz around the Club with how some of the new rules which were evident and in play on the PGA Tour last week in Hawaii. Bryson DeChambeau was the main user of putting with the "flag in" and not just from long distances but all distances from the hole. Of course this is the change that effected all the players. Bryson "the Scientist" as he is known on Tour had planned to leave the flag in from the start as he feels it`s an advantage. "It`s certainly a help with the downhill, down grain putts to have that as a stopper kept my trust". Others weren`t so sure. Justin Thomas felt he couldn`t see himself taking it seriously with the flag in. Marc Leishman "broke the ice" from 3 inches but suddenly panicked thinking the stick might just spring the ball back out! He will be one who won`t be keeping the flag in for the time being. Like most things it`s all about getting used to change. More golfers will use it especially from long range and to speed things up at times no doubt. Right now DeChambeau only sees it as a benefit, I see it as an option, what about you? As so many of you are talking about the new rules and already asking for clarification, why not come along to our Club rules night on January 25th. It starts at 7 pm and should be on for around 2 hours, depending on the questions as it unfolds. An England and Essex rules official will be on hand to help guide us through the changes and remove any issues you may have. Please add your name to the list on the competitions board in the main foyer. It will not be 2 hours of your life that goes missing. I`m sure it will be extremely informative for everyone.
Other news around the Club… Perry has opened the bunkers around the 10th green. They set the green off really well and unfortunately for some make the hole just that bit more intimidating. Please follow all the signs to save wear and tear, and to give the grass chance to bed in further. The last bit of work is being carried out on the tee which will hopefully back in action by March, weather permitting.
