A new golfing schedule…
Has anyone noticed next seasons Tour scheduling arrangements or actually does it make any difference to your golfing interest? Because US TV want no clashes with the NFL (their biggest sporting money maker outside of the Olympics),The USPGA is now being played in May, making The Open the last Major of the year in July. The Majors schedule now looks like this:
April - The Masters, Augusta May - The USPGA, Whistling Straights June - The US Open, Pebble Beach July - The Open. Royal Portrush
Alongside this, The Players Championship has gone back to its traditional slot in mid March again, the week after Bay Hill. The season now finishes in August! The only thing I see that being of any use is for players to have a break before either the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup. The top players do tend to just use these lesser events to brush up for the Majors, so what sort of support can the minor events expect after August? Who knows?
Because of this news, the European Tour have moved their schedule around and the flagship event, the PGA Championship at Wentworth has been changed to September swapping with The British Masters week. We all like the traditions that go with golf but unfortunately sport wouldn`t be the same without TV and they clearly pull the strings. So next season keep an eye on the scheduling or you just might miss a spectacle.
