Greetings from David Wood
Orsett Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Welcome to my new look newsletter. It will still be filled with all the best information, up to date news and ideas as always only delivered in a slightly different style. I know you will like it.

So what's been happening this week?

The world number one walked in off the course citing a bad back, maybe too much gym work can be harmful to your golf game! Rory blew the Honda championship with a dreadful last round. It happens to these players too, so we should not despair too much. At the top of his game for three days, McIlroy contrived to hit some shots even we are all too familiar with. Ironically he saved his best for the 18th and flew a fairway metal the 247 yards to just 10 feet before comfortably missed the hole with the putt to win. To see the amazing clutch shot click the image. Russell Henley went on to defeat Rory, Ryan Palmer, Russell Knox in the 4 man play off on the first extra hole.

At least Rory looks in some great form for Augusta in a months time unlike Woods who is fighting both his health and his swing. Is he still a bookies favourite? You bet he is! Although the 15th Major seems to be getting ever harder to attain. Roll on Augusta.

Speaking of Augusta, we are just rolling out our Masters sweepstake - £5 a square, just pick a number and that will equate to your player on the first day start sheet. Prizes for all sorts of scores, so don`t fret if you pick Sandy Lyle, Ben Crenshaw or Ray Floyd in the draw!

New Arrivals - PING announces Karsten TR Putter

Building on the success of last years Scottsdale TR putter line, PING have introduced the new Karsten TR line to their range. The putters variable-depth-groove technology allows the golfer to benefit from improved distance control on center-hit and miss-hit putts. The grooves are no longer on an insert but are milled directly onto the face the putter. In an effort to enhance sound and feel, an elastomer badge has been added into the cavity, this can offer instant audio feedback which is valuable to the user. PING have moved away from the classic black finish and have opted for an eye catching copper PVD finish. Each putter is optimised for a particular stroke. We have the range available in the pro-shop, along the PING putter fitting service. Come down and see what type you are and start holing more putts with PING today.

Titleist Pro V1 & Pro V1x 4 for 3

Titleist have brought back the early season loyalty offer, buy three dozen balls and get a further dozen  absolutely FREE! This must include personalisation of the balls in either red or black ink, on a single line in capitals. A real bargain if you ask me.Last chance for these are April 17th so do not delay.

Foursomes qualifier attracts biggest field of the season

A total of 154 players entered the summer foursomes qualifyier at the weekend. With increasing wind and cooling temperatures scoring was difficult. Coming out on top were Phil Morton and Mark Wheeler with a level par total. 5 under was qualifying mark with Dave Pettet and Ray Short getting the final all important spot.

Karl Morris evening looking good

Looks like it will be a full field for Karl. We now have over 90 people signed up and still 3 weeks to go for what will be a first for Orsett members and guests. To get the chance to listen to someone at the top of their field is unique so here`s your opportunity. For just £10 (£16.50 if you want dinner first) you can listen to ideas on improving your game without changing your swing. All you need to bring along is an open mind and a pen. Remember, March 24th 7pm start (6.15pm if dinner required) If Karl can help Major winners he can help us. Can you afford to miss it? Not if you want to improve.

Podium finish

Captain, David Turner and I played in an Essex PGA four ball event that was held at our own course last week.We finished tied third behind the winners just two points ahead. Cruising along at 4 better than par after 11 holes, we just couldn`t make any further headway. So T3rd we came. Many thanks to my partner, a podium finish first time out wasn`t too shabby. Next week I`m playing in the Sunningdale foursomes. Looking forward to it already.

Taster day is a success

The Ladies have been holding taster days recently looking to snare those floating ladys who maybe considering a new club or setting down roots.16 ladies took up the offer and were shown why Orsett is one of the BEST Clubs in Essex and not just the driest! Led by Lady Captain, Margaret Oliver and Vice Captain, Ali Battle they put on a very empowering presentation that wowed the inquisitive ladys in front of them.Well done Ladies one and all.

Fenntastic improvement

Paul Fennel came along to update his driver a month ago. I promised him at least 15 yards further up the course or I would buy him beers for a month! He came in this week and said my bet was safe as he was driving the ball more consistently in the fairway but up to 30 yards longer! Good job because if you know how much Paul likes his real ale I might have had to sell the crown jewels to cover the bar bill. All he needs now is for Arsenl to win something and his season is complete. 2 out of 3 isn`t bad Paul.

Big game this weekend

Wales are looking for their third win on the trot against the "enemy" at HQ. Wales need to bring it all to the table to get a result. England are playing good, quick rugby and are deserved favourites. Should be a cracker.

Putting passion into your past time, Regards, David
The right ball for your game

So many golfers don't give enough thought to the ball they play. If this is you, you could be losing shots all over the course. Give this some consideration when you're next in the pro shop before making that risky random selection.

So, ask us about how you can select the ball that fits your individual golf swing and playing ability.
