The two gloves return… So Europe`s latest winner might have reignited the "two glove" trend that took off when American Tommy "two gloves" Gainey gained notoriety for first wearing them on the Big Break and then when playing on the PGA Tour for a couple of seasons. Why does Aaron Rai wear them? It all started when he began playing as an 8 year giving him a better hold of the club (why the rest of us usually wear one). He forgot them one day, played badly and wore them all the time after that. It`s not just a superstition thing but a feel thing as well and we all know how important that is to play our best golf. Another unusual thing he does as a Professional is use iron covers, like many of you he likes to look after his club heads, something that no other Professional I know does (the iron covers that is). He now is England`s 12th winner on Tour this year after winning in Hong Kong and sets himself up nicely for the next few years being able to select his schedule and not have to chase around the globe quite as much. But back to the double gloves... what can we learn from it? I think it shows he does what he needs to do to be successful on the course. That is so important for all of us. Many of us may listen to the well-meaning of our friends/playing partners advice on our swing after a poor shot or buy the latest driver because a friend has "never" driven so well without any Professional advice or dare I say a custom fitting. Aaron Rai gives himself the best chance to play well. He may have the odd quirky thing going on for a Professional but he will have sound coaching and clubs that fit, taking away doubt from his game. The two glove thing may help your game too but a good technique and suitable clubs will get you a lot further. Get in touch now the season is over .Let`s sit down discuss your game and let me point out and guide you to greater success next season. Or just buy some gloves and carry on doing the same thing and expect a different outcome, I think we both know where that is heading! Contact me here.
