James scarpers with the Harper…
James Irving completed a welcome back to form win with 38 points in the Harper Cup at the weekend. James put the improvement down to 2 things his relatively new Mizuno JPX driver that is longer by 30 yards and most definitely straighter than his previous one and the fact he is some 40 pounds lighter. He beat evergreen Ron Wilkes and ever consistent Mark Whiten by a point to put his first trophy of the year on the mantelpiece. Have some sympathy for Mike Lenton though, he had the same score as James but infringed rule 6-6 only to be disqualified. Please check your cards thoroughly before handing them in people!
Pro's Day is just around the corner, keep a look out for the entry list in the Clubhouse. October the 4th is the date for your diary. A full day of prizes, fun and evening entertainment.
I look forward to hosting the day; it’s going to be popular so book early.
Also up and running is my annual football league chart. Pick up an entry form in the pro shop next time you are in. Entry costs just £5, it`s a bit of fun and the chance to prove you really do know something about football!
Footie’s back…
The football season is back and the usual suspects are getting all the headlines. Mourinho’s Chelsea look as good as ever with excellent summer signings, Man City will still be the force along with Arsenal. Man Utd have an awful lot to do to get back to challenge for honours even with LVG at the helm. Liverpool look stronger but will still rely heavily on the ageing Gerrard without the gnawing talents of Suarez. Favourites to go down? WBA, Burnley and Leicester. I`m sure it will be exciting, it`s just too early to think about football at the moment.
Just a short note on the last Seniors event in St Andrews, Scotland. It started with a record equalling 61 from Monasterio and finished with a good friend of mine, Mark Davis - a Brentwood golfer winning the event! It was just his third start on Tour so a fantastic start to his new career. Well done to him.
Bored with your hairstyle? How about trying this fashion blaster modelled by Harry Robson. I have had Harry’s permission for those worried about cruelty to hairstyles, don’t be. Do you think he could have a bit of Don King about him? Not sure how long the craze is going to last but sometimes it`s good to be different!
