[* END *]St George’s Day Club Captain Kevin Lyons and Ladies Captain April Glynn continued their year of office with their annual Summer Ball last weekend, well with summer weather at least! It was a good excuse to move it to the St Georges Day weekend due to their many commitments later on in the season.
From the picture below it clearly shows even staunch Irishman Kevin managed to wear some red and white for the occasion. It was fitting that his Vice-Captain Dave Chegwidden came prepared for all eventualities (also pictured), although I`m not sure what eventually happened to that trusty steed of his during the evening? Dave popped up on the dance floor regularly although it didn’t look easy dancing in chain mail and with a bowler hat at times. A fun evening had by all attending, good company, good food and excellent entertainment.

Callaway Fitting Day Our first fitting day of the season was carried out in near perfect conditions. Warm and sunny with next to no wind on the practice area. As you can see from the photos, Callaway brought everything but the kitchen sink along. We even got the chance to try products not yet available to the general public. Some amazing stats were being produced from our members and thanks to Chris, all those who came along were suitably impressed by either the extra distance or the reduced ball dispersion. Three members gained comfortably another 20 yards from drivers, so watch out for them this summer!

New arrivals Alongside the great offers above, we have also taken delivery of further items in the Island Green clothing ranges for both ladies and gents. A new company for the Orsett store which is being very well received due to its quality and incredible value. So much so, a member actually queried the price, expecting to pay more! We have added men`s shorts, more shirts and ladies sleeveless shirts for getting those arms completely tanned. Take a look next time you come over, you will not be disappointed.

On the playing front Lady members, Shirley Newbury and Sue mason got through their second round Daily Mail foursomes match last week winning 6&5. They now have a home tie in the third round against Crondon Park. Good luck girls, just another 9 rounds to go for the final! Orsett member and County player Will Percival ran into a speeding train in the semi-final of the County Keating trophy at the weekend. He lost to County Captain Jay Beisser who was 6 under par when they shook hands. Beisser unfortunately lost the final 3&1.Well done Will, a good start to the season! |

This weekend is the Scrutton Cup and also the Lombard trophy qualifier where the lucky entrant plays alongside me at Walton Heath in July for a trip to Portugal, and all for just £2.00. Get that last minute practice in if you can, it might just be worth it! Great result for Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final. At one time it looked like a complete annihilation but like Alf Ramsay all those years ago in Mexico, the manager took off their best player to rest him and has given the opponents a chink of hope as they scored two late goals. A little hope and some is better than none, let’s hope Liverpool can maintain their lead for the return leg next week.

Urethane cover? So what... |
A common phrase we hear here in the shop is: “It’s round and white, it can’t be that different”. The truth is that every single golf ball is unique in some way – whether it’s the ball’s core, layers or dimple pattern – but there is one thing that all premium balls have in common… |
Try Urethane with the Z-Star and Z-Star XV Like all tour-level golf balls, the Srixon Z-Star and Z-Star XV boast a Urethane cover, which sets the bar for cover materials. Urethane – a soft and flexible polymer – will give you the highest possible spin rates combined with the best feel; benefits you will really notice when hitting chip and pitch shots. However, if you like to play lower flighted chip-and-runs you might prefer other options in Srixon’s range that are made with Ionomer covers. While this type of cover doesn’t generate as much spin, it is slightly more durable and offers a cheaper alternative. |
|
| As you can see on these 50-yard pitch shots, the extra spin from the Urethane cover ball on the right helps it to stop much quicker than the Ionomer cover ball on the left, which rolls out on landing. |
