Thornton Cup Orsett`s Thornton Cup team played out a tight semi-final against rivals Thorndon Park last weekend. In near perfect weather, the holders got off to an ideal start by leading 3.5 to 1.5 at lunch. With changes to the side and new foursome partnerships, it couldn`t have gone much better according to team Captain, Steve Rooney. The afternoon singles were close affairs with Orsett in fear of letting their lead slip. With such depth to their team the game results were steadied and they got over the line 8-7. "It was always going to be tight, two good teams both wanting to reach the final and fortunately it went our way. I couldn`t be more proud of the side and we are all looking forward to the final at Thorpe Hall on September 10th" Club Captain - Andy Lee.
So if you can spare a couple of hours that day, take a trip to Thorpe Bay and support the team who are again trying to retain the trophy they won last year against Rochford. This year’s opponents will be dark horses, Basildon, always known for producing good players and this season they have a good team. It will be strange for both sides as players have represented the other team in the past and friends will become "the enemy" for a few hours. It should be a close and exciting game and any extra support would be welcome.
