Hello golfers,
Putting Orsett on the map...agian...
Orsett players Will Percival and Sam Wilson put the club further on the map last weekend.
Will closed with a second sub 70 (66) round in the 72 hole Championship to finish an impressive T4th in the Essex Amateur Championship at Stoke By Nayland. Will finished 7 off the excellent winning total of 13 under par. This solidify s Will's position in the County team that he broke into last season. He was also part of Essex`s recent Eastern Counties foursomes winning side as well.
Other members, Zach Chegwidden finished in the top 15 and Cass Steffens was 33rd and this completed Orsett`s players who made the cut.
This weekend all three play in the third round match of the Thornton Cup, ironically against Stoke By Nayland at home. All support is very welcome for our Cup Holders.
Sam was at Luffness, Scotland, just around the corner from Muirfield, playing in the recent US Kids, Under 8`s European Championships. At 3 under par for 2 rounds, he started badly in the final round with 3 dropped shots on the first 2 holes, but he recovered with 3 birdies in the last 4 holes to place 6th, 11 off the pace. This was unfortunately just outside the trophies. Still a great experience for him and Dad Matt, who was more nervous than Sam out on the course.
Well done boys great effort keep up the great golf.
Steve delights at the Grove...
Steve Terry took to the Grove fairways on Monday. He won my Pros Christmas draw last year and took his wife Anne and his life savers, Ron Davey and Richard Parker with him. It was only in August last year that Steve saw things completely different after collapsing and needing CPR and mouth to mouth on the first fairway followed by further support from the ambulances services.
Thankfully he made a full recovery and got drawn out first in the draw. So as a small thank you to the three people who helped him most they teed off with him on the Hertfordshire course.
"What a great experience. It is without doubt the best course I have played. The venue is incredible as well. The staff were so attentive and couldn`t do enough for us. All four of us had a fabulous time and I can`t thank David enough for choosing a such a brilliant place to play."
As you can see Steve was so overwhelmed with the course and had trouble lining up at times!
Steve, I'm pleased you all enjoyed it but more importantly thanks to others quick reactions, that you got chance to play it.
Mizuno Fitting day looms...
We have a new date for the diary for our Mizuno fitting day; Friday June 16th 2-6 pm. If you want to try some of the best irons in the business here`s your chance.
Some of the appointments have already been taken but if you call straight away you should get an opportunity. Mizuno will also be bringing along their best ever metal wood range too.
Not generally known for their woods, these could be a big surprise just as they already have been to some of the members this season.
Perhaps there is golfing friend who is a non-member that would like to come along,. Please tell them they are always welcome. Click here to request your space.
There are two ranges to choose from, the MP and JPX. Remember "nothing feels like a Mizuno".
White Gold...
Anyone been watching one of the BBC comedy series set around double glazing showroom and the unscrupulous sales team?. Set in the 80`s much of the filming has been done in and around South Essex areas such as Corringham and Orsett.
To see the earlier episodes that includes the golf club, go on the BBC iPlayer and catch up on the series and watch for yourself. If bad language is not your thing , watch without the volume! Some of the cast come from the very funny "Inbetweeners" films. They play the Essex salesman just how the rest of the Country perceive "The Essex Man" in that role. Take a look on BBC2 at 10pm on Wednesdays.
Lions Tour...
After a slow winning start the Lions are now on the back foot after the defeat against The Blues oon Wednesday. Coach Warren Gatland said he would happily lose all the provincial games if they won the Test Series. Of course this is understandable but any defeat can`t be good for morale and confidence among the squad. The first three games were to give all the squad a run out and try things. Let's review next Saturday after the big game against the best provincial side,The Crusaders. By then the test team thoughts should be come apparent. So rugby followers, do not panic yet.
The US Open is nearly upon us...
Will DJ recover from his missed cut last week?
Next week I`ll mention a few players to watch out for who just might surprise the superstars in the field and may just give you a bit of value in the betting.

Not looking great… Let’s face it; the weather forecast is looking rather bleak over the coming days, but don’t let this stop you venturing down to the club for a game of golf. If you do find yourself getting drenched on the course, we have a range of Ryder Cup-inspired outerwear from ProQuip with your name on. Think of it as preparation for the winter.
