Hello golfers,
Night At The Boxing
Anthony Joshua lived up to expectations with one of the best ever British victory in history. Winning in the 11th round Joshua out willed his opponent Vladimir Klitschko by knocking him down twice and pinning him against the ropes before the referee stopped the contest.
Joshua had to box more rounds in this fight than the Cassini Orbiter will get through the rings of Saturn before disintegrating. Joshua had his man down in the fifth only to get knocked down himself in the 6th as Klitschko tried to finish the champion off but somehow he stayed vertical.
In front of a 90,000 audience, Wembley stadium finally put on something worth watching! Joshua is now looking to fight Tyson Fury or maybe a re-match with Klitschko. He showed he is the real deal. Is anyone out there able to beat him? It remains to be seen.
Cadets Start In Style
Mark White was extremely pleased with his team's efforts in their first match of the Youth Shield last weekend. The Orsett team beat probable favourites, Chelmsford, 4-1. The only match they lost was on the 19th to a fine birdie, so it could have been a clean sweep.
Mark said: " I asked them to enjoy their matches, not get despondent if things weren`t going their way and to keep fighting as every hole and point mattered. They took me to my word and turned a couple of matches around which showed the right attitude. I`m proud of the team and of course a good win shows we want our trophy back we won in 2015".
Thornton Cup
Thornton Cup team have their second round match this weekend at Ilford, a hugely contrasting course to Orsett, right in the heart of Ilford itself on a small piece of ground. The team is not taking the game lightly and any support would be grateful. It's a course that can give up lots of birdies and would be quite entertaining to watch.
Threadgill Trophy
Last Friday Orsett held its County Order of Merit event, the Threadgill Trophy. Orsett member, Danny Vaughan was defending his trophy. In very good conditions on greens running at 10 on the stimp metre and with no wind low scoring was expected. At times many had the course at its mercy only to bite back on the notorious last five holes. Eventually Callum Pipe from Braintree ran out the winner on a score of 143 (-1). Top Orsett player was Will Percival tied 2nd on 145 and Harry Robson finished fifth on 146. Another notable success was Cadet, Tommy King, who was runner up in the nett scoring with a total of 135 off a 10 handicap. Tommy was only beaten by 2 shots but has had his handicap suitably addressed!

I`m away this weekend on the S Club 46 sweep golf tour as 44 members take to the French resort of Le Touquet to sample the courses and the culture. Apparently there is a competition to be won as well. Possible details and photos to follow next week. Au revoir pour le moment, á la semaine prochaine, hopefully!
