Staff news

Masters Sunday signifies the last day of work for one of our team. Richie Wistow has been working with us since I started here at Orsett in 2013. He qualified in early 2016 but due to an injury, any form of playing has been greatly restricted. He started to gain a bigger interest in IT and will direct his focus on it as a career and has landed a role in London.

"I can`t thank David and Andy enough for the last three years. I`ve had a great time working at Orsett since they arrived. All the members have been fun to be around as well and I will miss it, especially on Sunday mornings with all the banter. It will obviously give me more time with my wife and daughter as well and you can`t put a price on that."

Richie, we will miss your 100% enthusiasm, your golf knowledge, support of the members and of course your PC skills. Thanks Pal.

Tour news

Can Jon do it?

The latest WGC event threw up a great match up in the final. World No1 Dustin Johnson beat The New Kid on the Block, Jon Rahm in a slug fest around Austin Country Club last week. DJ solidified his position as hottest player on the planet and with 3 straight wins he is in the form of his life and certain favourite for the first Major at Augusta next week. Yet it wouldn`t surprise anyone if Rahm, the latest Spanish sensation isn't in contention come Sunday evening. Playing the same sort of power game as Johnson, the Spaniard, like DJ battered opponents into defeat all week only to run into the best player in the field in the final. How will Augusta make it DJ or Rahm proof next week? Can they? As they possess all the skills to navigate Augusta's layout. Rahm is amazing, as I mentioned a few weeks ago he is barely out of College twelve months ago but is already in the World's top 25! Augusta may have come a little early for him this time but he looks a Major contender none the less.

The Masters

Next week we will finally find out who gets who in the Masters draw. Because of the late invites we now have some numbers available for selection. If anyone wants one please get in touch so we can add you in the draw. The draw itself happens Tuesday. We will advertise it immediately it comes out. Latest odds at the bookmakers clearly have DJ favourite at just 5/1, next is Spieth at 6s, then Rory one point back. If you fancy Jon Rahm he`s out there at 27/1, Big Phil is 28/1 so some value for the two time champion as is Rose. A great bit of value is Paul Casey at 45/1 and Bubba at 50s. Meanwhile if Tiger plays, 183/1, he knows the course so well it might be worth it. Another is Zach Johnson, if the weather is not great the wedge game may be important and at 156/1 could be the bet of the week. It never gets any easier does it.

Shop news

Like the weather, the shop is gradually morphing into the spring and summer colours. Since delivery of Oscar Jacobson took place last month we have taken in our crested clothing fresh from Glenmuir, suppliers to the Ryder Cup team. Also arriving is the PING clothing to sit alongside their award winning hardware. Take a look at the softer improved merino and cotton sweaters in the display. If you prefer traditional colours rather than fashion ones, they are all available from Glenmuir

Remember, if you are in need of some logoed clothing we can supply it for you. It is not just our Club logo we offer, it might be for a corporate day, trip with the lads or some other function, the cresting will be offered FREE on the cost of the garments.

Many thanks to those of you who have already chosen your personalised Titleist balls. Most have gone for a personal number too which makes it all the more easily to identify on the course. If you wish to avail of this excellent offer please check into my web site and follow the instructions.

We have had an amazing response to the latest Mizuno JPX 900 metals. The driver has been successful in just about everyone's hands. Recently I mentioned James and Aidrian since then, Rob Stevens amongst others have been in and made great strides from the tee. Issa Pooloo has found 10 extra yards with a hybrid and liked it so much he came back and bought 2 more! If this is something you may want to consider, get in touch and let's show you the difference on the GC2 launch monitor.

Remember nothing feels like a Mizuno.
