Competition news

Great round last week by Issa Pooloo in the weekend competition, 41 points off 4 handicap. Issa isn't the longest hitter in the Club but possibly one of the best amateur wedge players I've played with. The value of having a wedge game cannot be undervalued, just ask Issa

If it's perhaps something you would like to improve on this winter, your short game. Be the sharpest chipper in town, hit fearless lob shots, never worry about bunkers again, look forward to the challenge of those "bad" lies, get in touch and let me help you lower your scores.

Tour news

Aussie, Rod Pampling reignited his career with a huge win on the PGA Tour at the Shriners last week in Las Vegas. The 47 year old opened with a near history making 59, only to see his 10 footer drift over the edge of the hole for 60. Pamps lost his playing rights on the PGA Tour for 2 years, won it back via the Web.com Tour and now after his third PGA Tour win, eats again at the biggest table of all.

He is exempt now, right up until his 50th birthday and will be able to go straight out onto the Champions Tour. He gets to play next seasons US Majors, the Players and Champion of Champion event in Hawaii in January. What a turnaround!

The Aussie beat another "lost soul" Lucas Glover and Brooks Koepka the latest of the big bombers on the Tour. 3rd round leader, Glover was tied with 2 to go but bogies to finish, dropped him back to third. Pampling held his nerve, putted like the ball was in trough to the hole on the back nine and got his Million dollar reward.

It goes to prove that self-belief and not getting too down on one's self can be beneficial. A lesson many of us would be wise to practice when things aren`t quite going our way.

World of sport

The Auld enemy face up again...

England prepare to face their oldest foe, Scotland on Friday evening in the latest round of World Cup qualifying games. Can`t see it being a great advert for the "beautiful game" but will definitely have a very sharp edge to it. Last time these teams met in the World's oldest International fixture was 1999 and Scotland won 1-0 at Wembley.

Strachan's team may have to be physical to get anything from the favourites while England and their interim manager elect, Gareth Southgate will probably pass them to death. Southgate has opened eyes with some of his squad selection and done as other before him, picking less than fully fit and out of form players. Scotland aren't much better dragging players out of retirement to play. England should still have enough to get three points and edge closer to qualifying in Two years' time.

There are 6 Wilson DX2 balls on offer for naming the first goal scorer and winning score correctly by Friday 11th November before 7.30pm.

Andy Murray gets the accolade as World number One tennis player and the "experts" believe he might be the best British sportsman ever!! Great achievement for sure another Wimbledon is brilliant, the best ever? Here's a few who may have claim to that title....

1 Sir Nick Faldo
2. Daley Thompson,
3 Mo Farah
4. A P McCoy
5. Phil Taylor

All unbelievable Champions, the best at what they have achieved or do for a little longer. How about this, Muzza may not even be in the top 3 Scots yet?

Who then?

Alex Ferguson,
Eric Liddle
Willie Carson
Old or Young Tom Morris

What do you think? Is Andy worthy of either accolade just yet?
