Ok, I know most men prefer to ignore it but Christmas is not that far away! Here at the Orsett Pro Shop, your shop, we have everything you may need when asked that question of all questions, 

"What do you want for Christmas?" 

Most of us answer "nothing really, I have everything I want" 

But have you? 

Many of you often tell me they are either playing badly or scoring badly, they are not the same but do add up to the same thing, disappointment, frustration and maybe even another bruise on the dogs backside as you get indoors! 

So if it's not a straighter driver or putter that sinks more putts that may help, then what about a few lessons with your existing clubs? It's amazing what a couple of lessons can do to transform your game. For example, lady member, Lesley Johnson was all for giving the game up this season but a bit of cajoling from husband Colin and four lessons from me and hey presto, the Johnsons recently won the Orsett Mixed Foursomes Championship this season, not bad for a lady who was about to put her clubs on eBay! 

All you have just have to give a different answer to that all important question and with a little bit of hard work, let's see if make 2017 a season to remember. 

Coming soon, is the annual Titleist personalised ball offer. Get those balls personalised for yourself, a thank you to a golf pal or work colleague, any message can be added (nothing rude though) in capitals as long as it's in black ink. Each dozen will contain a useful Titleist ball marker and all will be available for collection before Christmas usually 10 days after the order is placed.

Captains drive themselves in… 

As John and Sue hand over the reins to office, Andy and Christine formally took over with their first official function with their "drive in". Never had either been quite been so nervous with a golf club in their hand yet it's said "use the butterflies to your advantage" and both did hitting great tee shots.. Christine did admit later she didn't even remember anything about the shot or much of the celebrations afterwards. Which also augers well to continuing John and Sues year of social activities at Orsett. Andy, who was "happy to get it away" will be on the social scene too and will be well advised and organised by his "social secretary" and wife Iris. 

For those who want to bring a bit of Christmas cheer home with them, remember to enter the Turkey Trot on November 13th. It's your big chance to put dinner on the table curtesy of your golfing skills. This is followed by the Club Presentation of annual prizes. So enter and stay around to congratulate all the winners, especially the Thornton Cup team, Silver Team and Individual Seniors Essex champion, Steve Rooney. 




More Ladybirds in the trophy for Paddy... 

Irish star Padraig Harrington, won in Europe for the first time in 8 years. The Irishman won the final event of the season in Portugal around the Victoria course from Andy Sullivan who was defending. A faultless last round saw Harrington over the line. His aggressive play and renowned short game on the last two holes secured his 15th European Tour win of his illustrious career. 

Winning is a good habit to have and without a tidy short game it's nearly impossible. Harrington has always had one but his insistence to fiddle with his swing that won Majors was strange. He still has time at 45 to win big again, knowing him and his desire levels he probably will.
