Success story

New face on the scene...

Some good news, Andy and Claire have got their new arrival. Little George arrived on August 30th at 11pm weighing in at 7ib, 9oz. All are doing well. Good luck getting any sleep for a while! See you soon.

Junior news

Orsett Cadets
relinquished their hold of the County Under 18 title last weekend. Losing to Chelmsford in the semi-final wasn`t the worst thing to happen, as their opponents were favourites on paper, form went accordingly. However at one stage the match could have gone in Orsett's favour but it wasn`t to be. Cadet Organiser, Mark White was extremely proud of the efforts.

"The squad is still young and to lose by the closest margin is tough but they will forget it soon enough and use the experience in a positive way. We`ll be back next season hoping to make the final once again."

Captains news

Lady Captains Day

Lady Captain, Sue Mason couldn`t have asked for a better day last week. Sun shone and nearly all the ladies section attended her annual Prize traditionally the course is decorated in everything the Lady Captain enjoys away from golf. Florida, travel and tennis were very relevant this year with all the huts keenly decorated as was her buggy for the day themed in Disney style.

Winners on the day were. Overall net winner, Pauline Woolgrove, 42 points, Tracy Rooney in the silver section with 41 points and Joan Sadler in the bronze on 40 respectively. Some fabulous scoring on a most perfect day.

Coaching news

As the ball has been running further, we`ve had many of you coming in frustrated with the firm ground conditions and not knowing how to hit those 60 yarders into the green. Why not get booked in for some help and allow me to explain.

For now here`s the questions you should ask yourself

- What am I trying to do with the ball flight?
- What club will create that ball flight?
- How should I be setting up for that ball flight?

If the answers are not particularly clear to any of these, you need some directive. Let me advise what changes you may need to make to get better at these shots and why.

Many of you watch all sorts of video exerts but does that really get the point across? Does it actually point out your problem with the shot?

Get in touch the usual ways and get some simple, sound information that will make those pitches confidence building and score busting.

The Ryder Cup

Clarke goes for his Westy in a crisis.

Ryder Cup Captain, Darren Clarke played safe on his three wildcard picks to some extent by picking his "pal" and team partner, Lee Westwood for his Ryder Cup team. Westy veteran of nine other matches was "needed" to balance up the experience and youth scenario. Europe awash with Rookies this year also have Martin Kaymer, he of the Medinah miracle winning putt as a Wild Card. The third was given to another newbie, Belgian Thomas Pieters who shot 62 alongside Clarke in Denmark on the way to winning the event. Pieters has been in contention for a while but his 4th in the Olympics, 2nd in the Czech Republic and win in Denmark sealed the deal.

Unfortunate for Scotsman, Russell Knox, who in other years would have cruised in with his credentials. 10th in the automatic spots and twice American Tour winner this season he is the major casualty, probably for Westwood. Experience will count for a lot, especially away from home is Clarke`s thinking. America's team looks full of past players, so far only one rookie, Koepka makes the top 8. Love has 4 picks, which could be interesting. Does he risk a couple of other Rookies or get even more experience on board to "win it back for Uncle Sam?"

America look ready for it and want the Trophy back over the pond. After Medinah when it was cruelly taken off them by some awesome singles and then a terrible Gleneagles, are they about to win again? It could be close, back the draw maybe? It will be compulsive viewing whichever way. The galleries will be up for it, even the "mash potato ijdeeyots". Europe will need leaders for sure. Big Darren will do a great job, let's hope his team can too.
