These are the words of 7 handicapper, George Wickens who followed Richard Parrish`s lead and got his iron distances measured. Knowing how far you hit a particular club is essential to consistent scoring which so many crave.
"Everyone must go for a lesson and tell the instructor they hit a 7 iron 150 yards, now I know how far on average I do hit my 7 iron through the air and it isn`t that far! My best didn`t even carry that far. It`s made such a difference already. I stuck to the information sheet even when I felt I needed less club and I still barely got past flag high. The only way I should be short now is through a complete miss hit. I`m not guessing anymore, I`m committed to the yardage and confident it will be more exact giving me shorter, easier putts. Funny enough, I actually hit more solid shots as I wasn`t forcing the ball"
Work with reaching the flag with your average shot through the air not your very best, it will help to avoid those front bunkers and dreaded hazards. If you do hit one long at least you can say it was hit correctly. So get in touch and let's get you measured. Be like Richard and George. Learn how far those all-important irons carry. It could take your scoring to a whole new level.
Jimmy walked it home...
Texan Jimmy Walker has played pretty "quietly" all season, I should know, I've tipped and backed him for 2 years `to no avail! Last week at soaking wet Baltusrol, the 37 year old won the final major of the year. He led from start to finish even with World No1 Jason Day breathing down his neck he completed the tournament in fine style.
It should book him a spot on the US Ryder cup team too. Amazingly with all the talk being about the "Big 3" this season none won a Major. Day proved he is the real deal, but Rory and Jordan will be frustrated at winless Major season.
Then there is the next wave, DJ, Walker, Fowler, Stenson, Scott, Rose, Willett all bursting for further success. Golf is bubbling with talent. It does go to show just how good Jack and Tiger were for so long.
If you were to ask most people what they are looking forward to from Rio, I would think it would be the track and field, gymnastics, swimming, cycling. I doubt if golf even registers with the general public. The 2020 event will offer darts and snooker if Barry Hearn could swing it somehow!
