Good `Evans…
Steve Evans, he of the recent Hole in one (hasn`t he told you yet?), waltzed off with Colin Hodges prized possession, The Scrutton Cup. With a dream like performance, the 43 year old nipped round in a brilliant nett 63, which included a treble bogey. His 16 handicap has since been decimated by the handicap Committee to 13!
In his own words:
"I played as well as I could. I had a recent chipping lesson with David and although I seldom needed to chip, as I hit so many greens for a change, it saved me when I did actually miss one. I am really looking forward to June when we head for Walton Heath to try and win the regional qualifying leg of the Lombard Trophy, apparently the biggest Pro-Am event in the World."
Congratulations Steve, what a season so far!
Keating quagmire..
The annual Essex county Keating trophy qualifying was held at Abridge last weekend. Orsett had 5 players entered. After the rains on the Friday before, the course was struggling to be open, but with a few changes to tees and local rules the event went ahead.
Three of the members qualified for this weekend's knockout rounds, Will Percival, Zach Chegwidden and recent Threadgill Trophy winner, Dan Vaughan, got in. Vaughan is looking to redeem his final loss last year but has to overcome the leading qualifier, Jack Dyer from Rochford Hundred.
If you can afford some time to go watch the matchplay rounds this weekend, support would be most welcome but take your wellies!
Leicester, so close…
Even Tottenham's sworn enemies, West Ham, couldn`t do them a favour last week and stop the Midland bandwagon getting ever nearer to the Premier League Miracle. A 3-3 draw kept Spurs at arm's length and with so few games to go, the title looks set for Ranieris team. Could you bet against them now?
At the other end it looks like it's going to the last game after both Newcastle and Sunderland had big wins and dragged inconsistent Norwich back in the mix. The Mighty Villa got relegated for the first time in 16 years. Will we see them again? The team looked like it just didn`t care most of the season and as always it's the fans who suffer most. Players can/will leave but the fans stay on board hoping for better each week, each month, and now next season.
