Button's boys pull together…The Orsett Leslie Wood team turned their day around with a fabulous 8-7 win over 2013 finalists Theydon Bois last Sunday.
At lunch Graham Button’s team were looking at a desperate position, 4-1 down and the only thing going their way was they were at home. Donna’s lunch played dividends and our team rallied and turned the match around.
Big wins for the 'puppy’s' in the team, Cassidy Steffans and Connor Hammond 7 and 6 (ouch, dog licences!) gave the team the impetus to go on the rampage and dominate in appalling conditions. So much so that match 10 had a gentlemen’s half due to the result being concluded before they could finish.
Well done to both the players and caddies who manfully stuck it out for 'the cause' for their brilliant performance
They now have another home tie in the second round for their efforts.
Team on the day
Jason Jones, Barry Piddington, Connor Hammond, Peter Allen, Cassidy Steffans, David Chedwiggan, Mark Keen, Jason Mynett, Steve Faulkner, Ash Mahmood.
Res. Les Robertson, Steve Rosendale
This coming Sunday, the Thornton Cup team are at home. Let’s hope for a similar result, all though not quite so close please team.
Some of the juniors infiltrated the Rochester and Cobham Junior Open during the holiday period. Well done to Cassidy Steffans who finished 3rd in the event and has received a further handicap reduction for his good golf.
Saturday Cup..
As the competitions come thick and fast for a while, The Easter period shortened the field a little for this event. Even so, Martin Mahoney ,who recently helped the Seniors team to an early win followed up with a solid round of 78 to win with a nett 70. Runner up was Harry Ward (who has put his lesson on hold for a week) and third, David Tong. The course was playing perfectly, firm and faster greens caught many out as well as the unusual Easterly wind.
Scoop makes it back to blighty…
Richie Wistow finally got back from Augusta waxing lyrical about the place:
“I have never seen such an immaculate piece of ground” he said (and that was just the car park!) “The practice ground looked like something from a gaming console, just so perfect and the course was somehow better than that. I did manage to find a weed on the 17th but it had been fenced off so it didn`t spread. The views around the famous holes 12, 13, 15 and 16 were amazing. Tele doesn`t do it justice, it’s even more brilliant in real life. Security was so good they threw some guy out for shouting “get in the hole”. Unfortunately I couldn`t get any pictures due to security and no cameras or phones could be smuggled in. Bubba was unbelievable, I was at 13 when he hit that tee shot that went nearly as far as our hotel was from the course, a long, long way. A brilliant trip, I`d love to go again someday."
P.S. Hooters was awesome...
Masters sweepstake winner...
Neil Franklin collected his winnings from a special guest at the weekend. In front of the members he gladly received his prizes from the “special guest” who came along in his green jacket to add to the occasion.
