Captains have a ball….

Last weekend saw one of Orsett's big social functions take place with the Captains winter ball.

With many members in attendance John and Sue "threw" a great evening with fabulous entertainment and excellent catering to add to the evening.

As you can see from the photos everyone really enjoyed themselves and looking forward to many more social events like this one.

Tour news

Willett be Danny or Rory?

The European Tour comes to a close this week in sunny Dubai with the DP World playoffs completing a long season for Europe's stars of golf.

Danny Willett had the chance to sneak past a supposed unassailable lead this time 4 events ago but Danny Willett has narrowed it down to the difference of probably 1 shots worth of money. It's less than 2,000 Euro which is an incredible effort.

Last week Rory took the week off and allowed Danny to edge nearer, but has the Englishman run out of steam? He will be playing with Rory the first couple of rounds. Will he use this as a positive to inspire him on and to inch past the Ulsterman and head the European Tour Order of Merit for the first time?

Whatever happens it will be exciting just like last week in China where, Swede Kristopher Broberg saw off Patrick Reed in a playoff to win for the first time. Reed has become a regular on the European scene and turning himself into a very capable competitor. Broberg made a great birdie to take the title which could be one of many. The Scandinavians have got their golfing conveyor belt back on track and producing some fine players and not just form Sweden.

Last week saw Russell Knox do the same and just missed out on back to back wins after a play off defeat to Graeme McDowell. So could Broberg go one better or has the Swedish bomber partied too hard ?Back to McDowell, it was his first win for 12 months and reminds Darren Clarke he still has the game for next years Ryder Cup.

The season may be coming to an end but our planning for 2016 has already started. Click here if you too want to discuss a winter lesson package or a course of lessons to prepare you for the 2016 season.

Now Irish eyes are bleary...

The Republic of Ireland joined the party for the European Championships next year in France with a playoff win against Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2-0 in Dublin on Monday evening .The Irish, known for the celebrating, may still be doing so as you read this. They join England, Northern Ireland and Wales so I guess family holidays will now be put on the back burner next summer as so many supporters will be heading off across the Channel for football's second biggest tournament. It could also mean though that two of the "home" nations face each other in the qualifying due to seeding but it won`t detract from the achievement of qualifying. England will be expected to make the semis but that might just be too far for their team. Injuries could well play a big part just as it did with the recent Rugby squad so depth will be important for all the teams. At least two of the three best players in the world will be at the tournament once again. Who are they? Well they both play for Real Madrid and I don't mean any Spaniards either! After the recent atrocities, many will be hoping for a trouble free event. Let's hope we see the best Europe have to offer next season playing some exciting football with goals galore!
