Cadets make Club History,
For the first time in Orsett recorded history the Cadets have made it to the final of the Youth Shield. A fabulous 3 1/2 -1 1/2 win over event favourites Rochford Hundred Golf Club at Thorndon Park last weekend gave Cadet Organiser, Mark White, much to smile about.
"The boys in the squad have been brilliant all season and really put their minds to getting to the final. They play as a team, always support each other and as long as the team win, individual performance has been secondary. They are now looking forward to the final later this month against Chelmsford. Many thanks to all those who gave up their golf to come and watch last week, the boys felt the support definitely helped. The golf was excellent despite the persistent rain. Some of the shots under huge pressure was of the highest calibre. The matches were played in Great Spirit and credit to Rochford they were very courteous to us after losing, many others might not have been."
Keep a look out for news of the final on our notice boards and other media messages including this newsletter.
Bob jazzes up his game to win Captains Day...
Long-time member, Bob Smith saved his best round of the season so far for Graham Buttons Captains Day event last Sunday. Having played hardly any golf for a month due to a knee problem Bob cruised around in 42 points to beat Jason Spink on countback (22- 21pts)
"I was really not expecting much but I started with a birdie and followed this with a couple of blobs and didn`t think much of anything until I made 9 points on the last 3 holes. I was pleasantly surprised with my game and to win is lovely."
Jason however did receive the first prize in category 2.
Other winners on the day were Paul Mason, Mark Whiten, Trevor Newman, Chris Thoroughgood, Rob Stevens, Chris Dreher and Peter Knight. With an excellent BBQ and a lively Jazz band, the event couldn`t have gone better with people staying well into the evening. Great effort Mr Captain, job well done!
You snooze, you loseā¦
That seemed to be the message from the Ladies section regarding their annual Open Day last Thursday. It has a reputation for being one of the best and they have filled the 120 Ladies places by the end of March the last 4 years in a row. 23 Clubs were represented from 5 different Counties over the South East and with the legendary homemade cakes, savouries and Pimms they seem to have a winning formula. This year's winners were from The Burstead with 114 points in the best 3 from 4 team format. Ladies Club Captain, Alison Battle thanked all the Ladies and gents who helped on the day "and it couldn`t of happened without you. Special thanks though was given to Joyce McFarlane for pulling it altogether with her brilliant admin skills." So Ladies if you want to avoid disappointment next year make sure you sign up in February!
Look! All men's summer Nike and Oakley clothing is discounted for Super September. Much has already gone this weekend but there is still time to get some quality clothing to go in your wardrobe alongside the Ashworth goods you may have purchased already!
Coming soon, Sunderland and Pro Quip winter collections keep a look out for it.
Jason getting better Day by Day. Jason Day cruised away with the opening leg of the Fed Ex Cup and more dollars in the recent Barclays event on the US Tour. The Aussie just rubbed it in at the weekend with 63 and 62 consolidating his World No 3 place behind, Rory and Jordan. (Not a bad three ball to get a game with their) As Day was heading away with the spoils a little bit of history was being made when Brian Harman made 2 holes in one in the same round, only the third time ever in Tour history, although Orsett have had the feat done when Jeff Woolgrove managed it on 7th September 2012 on holes 8 and 12.
This week it's the Deutsche Bank event that set Billy Horschel on his way to Fed Ex glory last year. Rory is back, so the big 3 are all in this week. Looks like another birdie fest on the cards to me.
World Cup rugby is around the corner, anyone think England are good enough to get out of their group this year?
Strange events going on, on the football field last weekend. Chelsea losing at home to Crystal Palace, West Ham winning at Liverpool for the first time in over 45 years and not one draw in the Championship when all that's happened this season up to then were draws!
This week are the last round of European qualifiers. If England fail against San Marino it`ll be worse than Norway in the 80`s.If" little" Wales can do enough against Cyprus and Israel (is that in Europe?) A Major Championship beckons, I think it might just become a public holiday and Chris Coleman could get knighted!!
See you all soon,
