Silver misery
Our Ladies Silver team lost another nail biter 3-2 away at Thorndon Park late last week. Team Captain, Ali Battle felt her side deserved more.
"It`s disappointing to lose again, both matches we have lost were by the single point and both were away from home. The girls played ever so well too. It does mean we now need to rely on other peoples results to get through to the knockout stages, not what we had been hoping for after our excellent start"
Our Open Sweepstake continues to fill up. We are down to the last 15 names, so if you enjoy a flutter and would like to choose a name, better hurry or you will miss out.
Anyone see Robert Streb last week putting with his sand iron? A gentle lob towards his bag made the head fall off. Against the rules to put a new one in he putted unbelievably with his sand iron, making putt after putt to get in the playoff only to miss out in it. Spare a thought for Kevin Kisner, who has got into 3 play offs this season and lost all 3.Can`t even call that third time lucky!
If you have a problem making a solid contact on the back of the ball it is a great way to get back to centre hits and find your rhythm. Try it sometime on the putting green, and you`ll see what I mean. It will really help.
Open fever gets under way with a Major doubt…
Another big week of sport beckons- with The Open, golfs Holy Grail at St Andrews, a real links Versus Americas version, Chambers Bay, or put it another way, Elizabeth Hurley, a natural beauty or Pamela Anderson/Katie Price too ridiculously big to take seriously! I digress.
This Monday we got news that Rory is in big trouble. Not only is his game not quite where it needs to be but damaging his left ankle playing football couldn`t have come at a worse time. I would imagine he is having hourly treatment to speed recovery up but ankles are delicate things and are massively important throughout the golf swing .I`m sure he will try and get on that first tee if there is any chance but those in the "know" think he`s got no chance. So let's hold our breath until next week and see how he is then.
I`ve been asked many time already who could win, obviously the usual players Dustin, Justin, and Jordan (he`s definitely not plastic) With Spieth going for 3 in a row it might just be too much pressure for the Texan? Outside of these, I`ve always liked the look of Lefties due to the nature of the course. Bubba may have peaked a little early but Phil could have the Magic ticket? He has the short game skills most definitely needed and should he get that bit of luck anyone needs (ask Louis about tee times 5 years ago) and he might be heading back to USA with the Claret Jug again.
St Andrews brings the best out of all the players, they all want to win there so it should be a great event for all the right reasons unlike The US Open.
More next week and I`ll see if I can find a nugget worth a few euros on for a long shot as it won't be so bad losing a few of them if things go wrong.
Great week for British Sport…
Andy Murray looks really solid for his half of the draw at Wimbledon, can he roll l over the great Swiss, and Roger Federer to make the final, what a game that will be .If only Heather could have taken that match point. To put out one of the greatest ever players on Centre Court what a confidence builder it would have been. Unfortunately the world No 1 saved the point and went on to win. Like all great Champions Serena just had too much Ass (sorry class) for our girl when it mattered most. Lewis Hamilton lived up to the billing of the guy with the best car on winning the British Grand Prix last weekend at Silverstone, although it was perfect decision making that won it this time. The Brit along with teammate, Nico Rosberg have dominated all season and it doesn`t look like ending just yet either.
In Canada England's women's team "eclipsed all expectations" and reached the World Cup semi-final. A truly great effort only to lose to an injury time own goal to Japan, current holders. Japan played all the football, but England had many more chances to get to the final but like the men they just couldn`t find that bit of flair/luck when it was most needed. Mind you, some things haven`t changed 2 awful decisions for penalties (one each) were made by the ref, one the foul was way outside the box and the second was for chipping nail varnish off the attackers little finger! The football spent plenty of time in the air, so the idea of total football in the UK hasn`t reached the women's game either. The roof of my tele had a dent in it from the direct passing from back to front. The England strikers must have had to put their boots in the ice buckets to cool them down due to all the running they had to do! At least they beat the Germans into 3rd and with a penalty as well! Wonders never cease. A great effort girls. The Ashes starts this week too, it's just big sporting event after the next. Total viewing for the any sport nut. What with the Tour De France and World Championship athletics we`ll soon be into football season again and Ladies get a tough break.
