Kaymer not so calm…
US Open Champion Martin Kaymer capitulated last week in Abu Dhabi. The German who has literally 'owned' this event for the last 5 years winning 3 times lost a 10 stroke lead with barely 9 holes to play. Gary Stal, 22 year old French starlet cruised passed both Kaymer and World No 1 Rory McIlroy who was opening his European 2015 season out there too. Had McIlroy been any worth with his putter he might have been the one hoisting up the winner’s trophy. Congratulations to Stal who made this his maiden Tour victory and in such illustrious company. Kaymer put the collapse down to not putting very well the last round, nothing to do with missing some fairways in the thick rough or the complete duff from 30 yards then?
The French have a new breed of players coming through the ranks and must be looking to have players in that 2018 Ryder Cup team on home turf at Paris National. With the likes of Dubuisson, Levy and Stal adding to Jacquelin, Bourdy, Havret, Levet, et al. The French are gaining a foothold in World Golf.
Jimmy Walker enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere they call the Hawaiian swing for the last 2 weeks. He stumbled across the line to lose the Tournament of Champions 2 weeks ago to Patrick Reed in a playoff but bounced back with a near perfect display of golf which included 29 birdies for the week to finish 23 under par! Played around the Wailaii course, the Ryder Cup star putted everyone off the course to win by 9 shots. So for 2 weeks in paradise he picked up just over 1.5 million dollars! Nice work if you can get it and a nice place to work in!
Anyone seen Tiger lately? Apparently he was last seen watching his girlfriend Lyndsey Vonn win her 63rd alpine ski race and to celebrate he was caught eating a video camera. A new low calorie, high protein diet maybe? Actually ‘toothless’ Tiger was smacked in the mouth during the melee to get an interview with Lyndsey which cost him a front tooth. I know Tiger has been off screen for a while but is that the way to steal the limelight now that he is no longer world number 1?
nFlight and GC2 gaining momentum
Having advised you all of the emergence of my GC2 monitor we have really got into our stride with bookings. It’s amazing what some users have found out about whilst being fitted. Not just the need for suitable shafts and lofts but actually seeing the difference when reducing the balls side spin and how of a role this plays in increased distance. If you are still considering it, think no more! Click here to get booked in and see for yourself what we can do to increase your enjoyment of the game.
This week we have introduced the PING nFlight product as well. This is PING’s own answer to the multistep fitting process we use when building your clubs and compliments the GC2 perfectly.
For those hardened golfers who embrace all weathers we have taken delivery of Sun Mountain’s waterproof bags. Of course these do come at a cost but if you are one of those people who despise raincovers then this bag gives you the best option to keep everything dry apart from walking in off the course. Available in cart and stand bag take a look next time if you want something that little bit extra.
Also arriving daily are the new 915 metals from Titleist. We now have drivers, fairways and hybrids to demo and of course custom fit from.
Family success
New members, Neil and Lisa McGregor have really settled into club life recently by both winning events on the playing calendar. Lisa snuck past Tina Gregory who had a fabulous season herself in the Ladies section to win the Club Cup.
Neil amassed a brilliant 40 points in the January stableford including a 'slow' finish to his round on the last 3 holes. He was level par for the front nine off a 10 handicap. Thankfully the handicap secretary has made a nice dent in that for the rest of the members!
Congratulations to both of you.
