Back to winning ways! Lee Westwood amazed himself by winning his first ever Rolex series event at the Nedbank Championship at Sun City last week with a final round 64. The Englishman was extremely emotional having not won for four years on the European Tour, with many people whispering his winning days were over, it goes to show that we should never stop believing in something.
|
Going into the last round, Westwood had to contend with a confident Sergio Garcia, who looked imperious until the Sunday, and also home favourite Louis Oosthuizen, the man with the most fluid swing on Tour. Westwood got off to a great start with an early eagle which help lay the foundations of a great round. Having been a bit of a last round disappointment since winning, the Englishman played some great golf and of course putted beautifully with that new PING Fetch putter of his! I highlighted these last week in the newsletter, although he never hooked the ball out the hole with it, perhaps no one at PING has told him yet? He now heads for Dubai this week with his regular caddie back on board instead of his girlfriend. It’s always been said the caddie plays a huge part in a players success, spending 24 hours with the Boss is one way to keep him focused. |

Turkey Trott delight as Rob Revills in it again! Rob Revill and greensomes partner Brian Vanderhyde lead the race to the Turkey Farm at the weekend with a brilliant score of 45 points .Also on 45 points was Rob Newman and Max Critchlow-Dixon, Max is not known for his straight hitting so must have got it right this time! Both teams had 25 points on the back nine and were separated over the last 6 for their places. An impressive 216 people took part in the annual shotgun event held on Armistice Sunday which preceded Orsett’s annual prize giving afternoon. All in all, 12 teams won a voucher with 39 points on a last 3 hole countback completing the dozen winners. Congratulations to all the prize winners with just too many to mention individually and as always a huge support in the clubhouse at presentation time.

When you're playing golf during the winter, your shots don't carry as far or roll out as much as they would in the summer. It's just a fact of life. It also means that judging distances to the green becomes a lot trickier, with many amateur golfers coming up a little short with approach shots. Have you noticed this trend in your own game recently? |
| Step 1: Gapping session Well, if you come and see us for a gapping session, we can work out the exact yardage that you hit each club in your bag, making finding the green more often a reality. However, you won't realise the benefits of knowing your distances unless you know how far you need to hit the ball, something that a Garmin GPS device will certainly help with. |
| Step 2: Garmin GPS device The Approach S10 is the perfect solution to your yardage woes. Featuring a high-sensitivity GPS receiver, the S10 will give you the distance data you need to play better golf (front, middle and back as well as hazards and doglegs). This technology is there to help you, so make sure you're taking full advantage like most other golfers are! |
