Andy’s last day My Head Assistant Andy Morris finishes this Saturday and heads to his new position as Head Professional at Woodford Golf Club on Monday. As I have mentioned, Andy has worked with me for the last nine years, completed his training and is looking forward to being the head decision maker all for himself. He will be around the shop and clubhouse much of the day this Saturday and if you have time to speak with him or even buy him a leaving drink or two, I’m sure he will appreciate it. He will no doubt be back on occasions for a game from time to time. I`m sure, like me, you wish him all the success in the world!

Orsett offers FREE golf
es that’s right, free golf to all our members children and grandchildren up to the age of 18, from June 1st. The Club Committee have given, Cadet Organiser, Mark White the green light to this unique opportunity for children to become part of the Club at NO cost. I have been holding regular coaching sessions which have proved popular even after a long day at school and these children will be the first to benefit from the scheme. For children who do not have immediate relatives as members, the fee will be just £100.00, a bargain for a year’s fun and entertainment. If your child is interested in becoming part of Orsett’s Cadet Section, please come to the Professional shop and collect a membership form.

Ooh La La - Bradley just misses a podium place in France One of my elite students Brad Bawden whom I have taught since he started playing, manged a tied 5th place in the recent French Amatuer Championship at Chantilly, just outside of Paris. Brad had just returned from his University studies in Memphis and has hit the ground running with a fabulous early season result. Like two of Orsett’s Club standouts, Will Percival and Zac Chegwidden, he will be looking forward to competing in the big National events all over the Country in the coming summer months. We wish them every success!

Wentworth success for Molinari Francisco Molinari held off Rory McIlroy at the PGA Championship around the impressive Wentworth course last week. In front of huge crowds the Italian played sublime getting to the top of the field after Rory’s putter went cold at the weekend. Franky must be very much in the thoughts of the Ryder Cup Captain Thomas Bjorn after this and with his own National Championship this week he could seal his place by Sunday. Bjorn has done a great job selecting his Vice-Captains, all who played at Wentworth with the exception of Luke Donald due to injury. Donald did in fact pick Molinari to win there before a ball was struck. Let’s hope Bjorn listens to Luke and his wise words in the coming months.

Another European setting the game alight is Justin Rose who moved up to 3rd in the World rankings after his amazing win at Colonial last week. His game was sublime, that even on the last day when his playing partner, Brooks Koepka, shot 63 and made no head way on Rose. Sixteen birdies were made by the pair in one of the best ever final rounds played on the PGA Tour. Team Europe are beginning to build momentum for September, It`s going to be a lot of fun! There wasn’t much fun in Kiev last week where the whole of the red side of Merseyside seemed to be travelling. Unfortunately Liverpool failed at the last hurdle to win the Champions League and were blighted by probably two of the worst goalkeeping errors in the competitions history. The "other" goal was an absolute "Worldie" from Welshamn Gareth Bale with virtually his first touch. An overhead bicycle kick that was in the net before the shell shocked Karius could move. It made me think back to other "howlers" by the last line of defence in important games, such as Leeds United’s Gary Sprake diving over the ball in the 1972 FA Cup Final, Peter Shilton doing the same against Poland in the 1973 World Cup qualifier, Ray Clemence letting one through his legs against Scotland in the home International series at Hamden Park and of course Paul Robinsons miss with a clearing kick from Garry Neville’s back pass against Croatia that ended in the net. Most of those "keepers" went onto have continued success for Club and Country, let’s hope it doesn`t put Karius`s career in the bin.

When it comes to purchasing golf equipment there are many factors that you need to take into consideration. One such factor is your shopping destination, so here are just a few reasons why we should be your number one stop for all things golf. |
There’s only one choice Unlike buying blind from the internet and hoping the specs you choose match up and nothing goes wrong, here in the shop you can test a vast range of products and see all the stats for yourself to help you make an informed purchase that you can have total confidence in. It's our custom fitting ethos that really separates us from buying elsewhere, which is something you really should take advantage of. | |

Two of the latest iron models that are proving very popular with our members are the Lynx Prowler VT and Parallax. The former is a hollow headed model with perimeter weighting that makes it very powerful and forgiving, while the latter has wide soles for high launching shots and a cavity back that aids off-centre forgiveness. |
