Congratulations Andy My head assistant Andy Morris has managed to land his first head Professionals role, he leaves to take up the opportunity in early June at Woodford Golf Club. It will mean a considerably shorter journey to work as he lives near the 4th tee, so no excuses to be late to open up from there. Andy has worked alongside me for 8 years, passed his training with me and without doubt has enjoyed his time at Orsett. I'm sure you will all miss him and his rapport he has many of you, especially the younger members will put him in good stead for his new role. Social media is a wonderful thing so he will still be in touch no doubt. Good luck Andy, you should have most of the tools you need to be successful, especially your personality. We will all be sorry to see you go, keep sending the racing tips!

Joes Joyes delight Joe Hunt put together a fantastic round in Orsett’s weekend Joyes Trophy. In perfect conditions, the four handicapper ripped round the course in just 71 blows for a 41 point total. Up until six to weeks ago this had been less likely. "Thanks to Dave and the recent lessons I took from him, it's made all the difference. He made a couple of small swing alterations to both my long game and putting which were simple to understand and then work on, even with a busy work schedule. Last weekend they all dropped nicely into place for one of my best rounds for a while. I just didn't see the point of me trying to play competitively at the Club if I struggled to control my bad shots. This result has been coming and it’s great when it happens in a major competition, thanks again Dave!" |

The event sprung a few other enjoyable events up too. Colin Smith was literally giving his new Rogue X irons their first run out, he wanted a little extra distance and these Callaway irons dutifully obliged allowing him to gain 20 yards on his previous set.
"It has just made it easier to score. Anyone who knows my game, knows I'm not long but pretty straight, but this extra distance is great and after 36 points off the back tees, I feel I can be competitive. I always enjoy my golf but this just makes it a lot more fun."
Runner-up to Joe was ex-county player Bill Preedy with 40 points. The six handicapper was ticking along nicely until the par 5,11th hole, generally a hole where players collect points. Bill took seven and made a blob on the hole, only to ace his next shot at the 12th! Unfortunately he didn`t enter the twos sweep! It’s a funny old game.

Thredgill Trophy Orsett held their Thredgill Trophy last week. In more of those perfect conditions and on the Orsett course that had all the field raving about, it gave the chance for some home members to compete with the best in the local County. The field was full and needed a ballot to get in. It was the first part of the Estuary Trophy, a 72 hole total combined score of both Thredgill and Boyce Hills Challenge Bowl being played this week.
Scoring was electric with County Captain Jay Beisser leading after the morning round with a seven under 65. He had three of Orsett’s "stars" hot on his heels with 69’s respectively. The experienced Beisser coped with the hot conditions best and with a two under 70, kept ahead of everyone with a nine under total. Jay was extremely complimentary towards the course and even posted on social media what great shape Orsett was in. Congratulations too for both Will Percival and Harry Robson who finished tied third on 2 under which showed how well the winner played on the day.

Kevin’s boys advance into round three Club Captain Kevin Lyons was so proud of his Thornton Cup team’s demolition in a tricky tie with Clacton on Sea last Sunday. A 12.5-2.5 win is just the result he wanted other teams to notice when they look at the results this week to show his team are not resting on the laurels but are working hard to retain their trophy for the third time in a row. "We never take our opponents lightly and give them the full respect they deserve. I’ve been in sport too long to get complacent. We have an excellent squad of 16 who could play, but only 10 can, so the players in the team know they have to play well just to represent Orsett in the next game! We are eagerly looking forward to the next match and will be sure to be prepared for which ever club we get. The team spirit is amazing even with the age range of 18 - 57. They all get on well which gives the team a real bond. I’m enjoying being part of it so far" They now travel for a 3rd round away tie at Thorpe Hall on Sunday 3rd June. All support would be very welcome.

Battery Trade-In ends this Sunday If you haven't taken advantage of this promotion yet then you only have a few days left to get £25 OFF a new Lithium battery when you trade-in your old battery. Just to remind you, Lithium batteries charge quicker, last longer and work out far cheaper in the long run than standard Lead Acid alternatives. What are you waiting for? |

Perfect for cooler rounds Yes, we've enjoyed a record-breaking Early May Bank Holiday weekend without a sweater in sight, but the reality is temperatures will soon get a little cooler over the coming days. To combat the chill whilst on the course, especially early mornings or late evenings, consider a ProQuip quilted windproof, which provide lightweight warmth whilst blocking out any wind. |

The final awaits Just a quick congratulatory mention for Liverpool reaching the Champions league final after getting through the away tie in Rome last week. Even with the last 10 minutes of relentless onslaught from the home team, they held on for the place in the final against Real Madrid later in the month. Not a brick thrown or bar trashed, well done Liverpool fans!

Let’s face it: we all want to hit the ball further. Being able to hit longer drives gives you less club into the green, making everything that little bit easier. There are many ways you can try and generate more power during your swing, and nearly all of them start from the ground up. |
Trust your footwear Despite his small frame, tour star Rickie Fowler is renowned for his power. As you can see in the three images above, he pushes off from his right foot through impact and relies on great grip and stability to ensure the power his body is creating doesn’t come at the cost of control. Having a strong base is something we should all aspire for. The FootJoy Tour-S can help you do this thanks to its PowerStrap that enhances support, plus its nine cleats per foot that offer maximum stability across a range of terrains. |
