Beers and sausage rolls, what else is required on Charity day?
Club Captain, David Turner, made sure of plenty of both during last weekend’s Charity Day fundraiser.
Over 130 members took part to raise substantial funds for David’s charities for 2014.
Along with the golf a fabulous BBQ and golf auction followed to make a damp chilly day a whole lot brighter.
Not the most important thing but the winners were Colin Hodges, Dave Tong, Issa Pooloo and Carl Vanderhook (below, left) with a score of 92 points winning by one point from Joe Knight and his invisible partners (below, right) Russell Field, John Beck and Steve Faulkner.
Third place went to Father and son duo Steve McAnnally Snr and Jnr alongside Chris and Asa Thorogood.
Thanks to all participants, especially the “bong” game on the 15th!
Boys unButtoned in Leslie Wood quarters…
Orsett suffered a defeat in the quarter finals of the Leslie Wood County event at the hands of gritty Benton Hall around Chigwell last Sunday. 3.5 to 1.5 down at lunch afternoon singles were literally shared with a final score of 9 to 6. A great effort team and lots of close matches. Team Captain Graham has been proud of you all and it is unfortunate to come up just short. A bit like Uruguay, this match was maybe a bit more than they could chew.
Silver team a stylish win
Lady Captain, Margaret Oliver, was “over the moon” with the ladies 5-0 win against Theydon Bois. With neither team able to qualify for the knockout round wins were still important for morale. A fine result giving the ladies the confidence to do the same in their last match next week at Stapleford Abbotts.
Just taken delivery of the Wilson DX2 Soft ball. Why not try it? At £13.99 a dozen and 2 FREE balls on top of that, an excellent ball at even better value.
For those asking, the Club logo headcovers are due in any time soon.
Rose blooms in the DC heat...
Justin Rose kept up his win a year record by winning the US Tour event in the Country’s capital on Sunday in a playoff with Shaun Stefani. It took him one extra hole and boosted his confidence after an early season shoulder injury just in time for the Open at Hoylake. Rose looked full of authority as the field literally melted on the last day, and with a putter that looks like behaving he must be Britain’s best chance of glory. Also in the field a certain T.Woods, first time on Tour for nearly 4 months. Woods, like all thoroughbreds, needs a few runs to get the rust off and I`m sure will feature strongly on The Wirral in July. If not further questions will be asked as to whether he can surpass Jack as “the Greatest golfer ever”.
“Honestly Ref I only wanted to try the local Italian”...
That’s according to one Uruguayan, Senor Suarez who tried but failed to nibble past Italian defender Chiellini to reach the ball in their final group match! What was he thinking? Surely he didn’t think no one would notice (especially Chiellini)? So he cost his Country a possible quarter final spot, his Club Liverpool their best player until Christmas. Rumours around football he is chomping at the bit for a move to Barcelona, best place for him apart from out the game completely. No one could condone that in any sport (OK, Tyson tried) His only supporter? Diego Maradonna and his football integrity is waaay up there, ask Terry Butcher! What is it with great players do they think they are better than everyone else or something? Great players thrive on getting the better of their opponents not flipping eating their way through them. And since the weekend an apology for his actions, nice try Louis.
Meanwhile the other event in Brazil is getting exciting. Last minute goals, penalty shoot outs and of course auditions for Splash. I now know where “the Flying Dutchman” comes from Mr Robben. How many times did he get airborne last Sunday? Surely Mr Blatter it`s time to get the 4th Official doing something and watch replays of ridiculous cheats like Robben. The foam works, the goal line technology works, why not the Match Officials? Mexico were Robben’d (sorry) they deserved at least penalties, how many more results will be affected in the beautiful game?
