Latest news from the World of golf

Rory has parted with long time companion, JP Fitzgerald as his caddie.JP saw him through to 4 Majors and plenty of other titles, but it now seems Rors wants a new pair of eyes helping him. Favourites to be approached are Billy Foster, regarded as the bag man on Tour and Craig Conelley, Martin Kaymer’s Loop.

McIlroy has seen many changes in his life this year, most notably getting married, a new club manufacturer, a new putting coach and now, it seems new bagman. Amazing as it was JP got him back on track at the Open last month after a terrible first 9 holes and they continued to improve to 4th place, but it was not enough to save his job.

With the USPGA just around the corner I’m surprised he has done it now .Quail Hollow is a Rory favourite and JP’s experience and course knowledge would be invaluable around there. Still , you just don’t know how these superstars think and it may well be time for a shake up. Who ever gets the job will be an instant millionaire and, of course, be great at raking bunkers. I think I may just apply.

Rookie sensation Jordan Smith has ticked off another career goal by winning the latest European Tour event. Just three years ago the Englishman was playing minor league golf on the EuroPro tour and look at him now! Congratulations to him and he is so good he could Ryder Cup debutante next year!

Phil wears the crown...

Phil Beckwith has found another purple patch after a brace weekend of wins. Saturday, on his sweep away day he ‘cleaned up’ with 41 points. Obviously in a good frame of mind he then proceeded to win Orsett’s Coronation Cup on Sunday over countback with a nett 68 from Thornton Cup team members, Steve Rooney and Callum Newton. By his own admission Phil can be a little erratic but the handicap knives are well and truly out and thyey have reduced him from 19 to 17 this time.

On a day of surprises, Andy Wheeler had his first hole in one. The steady 3 handicap player had never achieved one before and I’m not sure who was more excited him or playing partner Mike Hepting who witnessed the feat for the first time too.

 
Junior coaching

Summer Camps keep Andy busy!

Orsett’s Junior Summer Camps are in full swing this week with Andy coaching numerous children of all ages and abilities to enjoy the game. The noise level has gone up a couple of notches so we know the children are having fun.

With counterbalanced putters the key change is heavier heads, which help fight twisting to make your stroke more accurate. This head weight alone would ruin feel, so another difference is extra mass above your hands in the butt of the grip, which balances the feel of the putter.
