We waited and in the end we got one of THE greatest Masters finishes ever! Drama at its highest form with what looked like the perfect 10 footer from Rose on the last. How did it miss? Then Sergio hit his second worse putt of the week after the nervy effort on 16 and so even more drama of a playoff. According to my betting slip the right man won and by the sounds of many of you, you all felt the same.
Either Sergio or Justin would have been a great winner, nip and tuck to the last with the pressure too much for the rest of the field come Sunday. Augusta again proved to be the test of all the clubs in the bag and mind. Garcia has proved to himself he is a Major Player. It wasn't oh so long ago he was on the brink of giving up but with Seve maybe "helping" him somehow on the 13th, the defining hole for momentum change, Sergio stayed calm, did his thing and just threw everything at Rose who wilted on the 73rd tee shot.
If you heard his interview just after the playoff, what a class act. Probably only Jack Nicklaus or Arnie could have been as classy so soon after defeat as Justin was. Both now must believe they can get Major No2. This season and it might not all be about DJ (Who may need to consider a bungalow in future) and Jon Rahm after all?

Orsett's
Thornton Cup team cruised into the next round with a comfortable 12. 5/2. 5 win last weekend in glorious weather. 4. 5/. 5 up at lunch it was more how quick can we get this done? Rather than if after the start. A "professional" job team, well done.
Sadly the
Norman Plum team lost in a tight match going down by just one hole on count back to Play Golf Colchester. 2/1 and 1/2 results meant holes won counted and PGC won just that one extra. Great effort fellas.
In the recent
County Keating Trophy qualifying at Boyce Hill both Orsett`s entrants qualified for the match play.
Callum Newton finished third with 140 total and
Will Percival 145. Well done boys a good start to your individual seasons.
This weekend at Orsett brings the first Major event of our season with the Scrutton Cup. It also is the qualifier for the Lombard Trophy, the biggest Pro Am in Europe. The winner from the Club plays alongside me at the regional qualifier at Walton Heath, the 1981 Ryder Cup venue in Surrey. The lucky winner of that plays the Grand finale at Vila Sol, Portugal. All that for just £2.00.
Steve Evans will be defending his trophy he won last year after a career best nett 63 which included a double bogey on the last!
