PING look like they have done it again with yet another winner.
The i200 iron due for launching February 3rd is well worth trying with us on the GC2 for those of you who may be looking to change this season. For those of you who have never been in love with the PING "style" this iron may just change your mindset. With its appealing thinner top edge and a clubface 30% thinner PING have created an even more forgiving club than the hard to be I series iron.
An elastomer insert behind the face, twice the size of the 'i' series had to improve feel and increase distance of those mishits (if you have any).
With very little "distractions" going on when looking down on the head at address, PING have created a product to once again stay ahead of the pack. For those eagle eyed viewers last week, Lee Westwood, Tyrrel Hatton and Andy Sullivan had them in play for the first time.
59... no longer the magic number. It seems like 59 was so difficult to achieve for the best players in the World. Before this season breaking 60 had only been achieved officially 6 times on the US Tour but 2 weeks into the 2017 season and it's been done twice. A fortnight ago Justin Thomas done it on a par 70 in Hawaii and straight away last week, Adam Hadwin did it on a par 72 course at the Careerbuilder challenge event in Palm Springs. This was even more amazing as it was 13 under par for the round which sounds almost impossible, equaling the first 2 players to achieve the dream" edging ever closer to the perfect round, a birdie on every hole.
For all of you golf historians, there have of course been other scores under 60 but they were on other Tours, 2 in Japan, 1 in Europe, Annika Sorenstam on the LPGA tour and US second string Tour, Web.com or whatever name it went under at the time.
This week is Torrey Pines and 59 is not normally a number associated with either of the courses there. Tiger is back in the field which is good news for the US Tour TV ratings. He is the master of these courses having won 8 times around the place. He is planning to play 4 weeks in a row including the Dubai Desert Classic next week. So, lots of air miles for the great man (probably appearance dollars too) with the withdrawal of Rory again because of injury, the event needs him.
Regarding injury, is Rory going down the Tiger route? Too much stress from the gym causing this latest injury concern? There has to be a limit to what the golfing body requires? Surely, Miguel Angel Jimenez has the answer, ok, the wine and "Lardy dahs" may not agree but the deep stretching regime does. We are at our most flexible at?

Anyone reading this is probably over 11, so you are in
need of some help! And yes even with reading a wine list (that`s a whole other issue) Try not to ignore it, golf is easier when you can move.
If you think golfers are all nondescript, robotic machines take a
look at this link. Chris Wood and Nicholas Colsaerts have a blast...

Rules night, breaking new ground... Well, for Essex County at least. We at Orsett will be the "Guinea Pigs" for the new style rules evening, which as mentioned last week will be interaction rather than the video style. If you have issues with the rules, so that`s all of you somehow, we will be covering many of the problems that pop up, including ones that get highlighted regularly here at the Club.
It is well worth coming along, as the rules are there to help you, not lose friends over. If you would like to extend your evening how about including something to eat beforehand? It`s only and extra £5.00. Bookings are being taken in the pro shop with or without food. So pop in and get signed up.
