Orsett member James Irving, has just bought into the latest JPX Hot metal irons from Mizuno. Ok, he has only played last weekend with his irons but finding they are going club for club, 12 yards further than his previous set. "Jamo" isn`t known for his power, more his straight hitting, yet these clubs have given his game a new lease of life (which many of his golfing pals thought it could do with)
It can`t just be a change of manufacturer that has made a difference but having the sense to get them fitted did. To be fair his previous set had been fitted some seasons ago, yet with the aid of the GC 2 machine and the Mizuno DNA system we got the very best shafts to suit his method and at no extra cost to James either. He is now looking forward a fruitful year with his golf and also to become one of those regular bank depositors I mentioned last week. If you think your clubs might be more of a hindrance than a help, why not get in touch and let's get you checked out.
Date for the diary... Wednesday, February 8th at 7.30 pm.
Orsett's new interactive rules evening. No more laborious, long drawn out videos of umpteen rules that are forgotten as soon as the next one comes on the screen but actual situations set up in the clubhouse where you could be the referee, making the decision.
If you are planning to play representative matches for your Club, for Club trophies or gamble on the course this is a must. It isn`t to make anyone look foolish but just the best way to learn those all-important situations that we, the staff get asked about weekly.
Along with Richard Herring, me and Essex`s own "John Paramor", Steve Bonnington one of the County's top officials and now on the EGU panel we hope to clear up some of the more common problems many of you all have differing definitions of. The rules are there to help you and protect the field. So why not come along, bring a few golf pals, it`s FREE (unless you require some food, just £5. 00) and finally understand how to stay on the right side of the law.
There are sales and offers everywhere at the moment and we have a few tempters for you as well. Such as....
Titleist Pro V1 or X`s, buy 2 dozen and pay only £72. 00
Srixon AD333 or Soft feel, buy 2 dozen for and pay just £36. 00
Titleist 915 fairway metals, only £149. 95 and THE last 915 Driver just £239. 95
Mizuno wedges, were £99. 95, now only £59. 95
These prices are of course on stock items only.
Among the new arrivals are the Titleist 917 metals, so what is different about the 917?
Well it has all of the attributes of the 915 BUT the design team have been working on improving the distance from those off centre hits. This is where the adjustable weight cartridge comes into play at the back of the sole.
By moving the weight around it means we can increase the draw and fade bias to your club without altering the backspin and therefore increase the club head speed through the ball and we all know where that leads. If that doesn`t motivate you to buy a 917 driver, how about I offer a 917 fairway metal discounted by 25% and a fitted free alongside it? This is for January only, so do not procrastinate. If it's good enough for Justin Thomas, he who weighs less than 11 stone and is possibly pound for pound longer than everyone else and last week's Champion of Champions winner and USPGA Champion, Jimmy Walker, it might just be good enough for you and longer than your current model.
Congratulations to Tony McGee for getting the Clubs first hole in one in 2017 on the 15th last weekend. It was his first ever and with a 5 wood.
Starting early it was a little murky, so he never saw it go in!
At least he took all the twos money for his trouble.
Good luck to all those playing this weekend, hope you have the same sort of success as Tony did last Sunday.
Rory chooses Callaway and others...
Rory's move from Nike hardware to another Company finally came to a close with the announcement the Irish World No2 will play with a Callaway driver, fairway metals and irons this year. Yet in the scoring area he will be relying on old friends, Mr Vokey, Scotty Cameron and the Pro V1 x ball. His iron change was influenced by his ball choice, so if it's that important to Rory it should be to you too! Transition will hopefully be smoother than his last one change which lead too many questioning if he had done the right thing taking "that big contract?"
He has until the first week in April to get comfortable if he is going to contend for the Masters and make history being only the fourth player to win all 4 major titles.
He plays in the South African Open this week and follows up with a favourable stint on the Desert Swing before heading to Florida and the PGA Tour. With you know who back in the fray, Jason, Dustin, Jordan and of course the hottest player on the
PS - My 2016 star pupil, Finn was at it again at the weekend, 41 points and still without scoring on all the holes!
