Well... That was a pretty terrible week for British Pride... For my thoughts on the sporting and political fallout, please click here.
It was all about the charities…
Captain's Charity Day was all about fundraising of course, however with the onset of torrential downpours, thunder and lightning that managed to hit the pro shop it was almost survival of the bravest! Having called the players in for two and a half hours to avoid everything, the members finally returned to their places and finished off. Winning scores on the day were last year's winners, defending their "trophy" were Dan Clark, Robbie Slaughter, Stuart Ince and Gary Gutteridge with a better ball score of 84 points.
They were the only ones to stay out on the course the whole time in one of the refreshment marquees (I wonder how they survived?) However the winner's speech was a little disappointing as Robbie could read what was on the paper unlike last year! Runners up were the Dreher family, Geoff, Chris and Peter along with Mat Lewis who also scored 84 points but lost on countback. Third with 83 points were Paul North, Kevin Warren, Glen Salmon and Steve Vaughan.
Many of the teams took to wearing their best outfits as modelled by Mr Smith and Mr Mahmood as well as others if you look carefully.
Prize giving was followed by an auction for various items including golf days out and signed football shirts (no England ones) Dj entertained everyone to well into the night after that. A fun day that was brightened up with Wales's victory and not wrecked by the unseasonal British tropical weather.

Ali`s Harris Battlers unbeaten…
Ladies Harris Bowl side have been playing really well so far this year. After an away win at Nazeing 3-2 and a big home win 4-1 against Stoke by Nayland they are in contention for the knockout "All the team have contributed points so far, now a big win against Forrester Park in a couple of stages. Team Captain Ali Battle is really pleased with the team effort. Weeks will strengthen our position greatly. Perhaps it would be a little retribution for the Leslie Wood team that lost there recently too" Great going Ladies, keep up the good work.
Open news...
Great for Matt Southgate to qualify for this year's Open. He lead the qualifying at the lovely Royal Cinque Ports course in Kent, another notable qualifier is Colin Montgomerie who took the last place at Gailes Links Tuesday and now gets to play on his "Home" course one more time. The big Scot may get the sentimental vote as he is now in the US, mopping up thousands of seniors dollars and you never know, he might just have a smile on his face come Thursday 14th July on the first tee.
