Greetings golfers,
Dutch Master, the origin of the beautiful game…
Diving, feigning injury, waving imaginary cards. None of the things could be associated with the Legend that was Johan Cruyff. Arguably the greatest influence on football since the Russian linesman in 1966, Cruyff was a genius of skill and tactics as a player and then manager. His legendary "Cruyff Turn" in the 1974 World Cup against Brazil, showed South American teams, Holland were not just argumentative team but a team with style, flare and World Class individuals.
A crying shame Cruyff never won a World Cup winners medal, a loss against Germany in `74 (what was Jack Taylor thinking giving that 2nd penalty) and a death threat from Argentina if he showed up in Bueno Aries in `78, meant two finals for Holland and two defeats.
Cruyff changed coaching mentality as well ,using the total football philosophy for all the teams to follow, understand and take to a new level, bringing the European Cup to Catalonia and success outside of Spain they had never seen before. He will be missed in the football world but his "turn" will continue to bamboozal defenders for seasons to come.
Yesterday, today and the next day…
Aussie Jason Day just keeps piling on the Dollars. Two weeks, two wins, Day has timed his run beautifully for Augusta. I just wish he would do it a bit quicker. He goes there as World No1, leapfrogging Jordan Speith, after his WGC win in Texas.
Injury could be the only thing that stops him in Georgia, a lumber issue caused concern last week. Augusta is a sterner test and will put any injury under stress. Rory is improving but still has "those" putting issues. It looks like it going to be the best ever. I say that each year but all the "stars" are aligning their skills at the same time. Throw in the odd outsider making a name for themselves and Augusta cheers will be ringing through the pine next week loud and long.
It's a horses for courses sort of place,so when it comes to it you better be on a favourite.
