Snow thanks...

The seasonal cold hit back last weekend at Orsett with a covering of snow that delayed play.

The weird thing was members from local towns and villages had seen nothing of the sort and fully expected to get their usual game in. Fortunately it wasn`t all day but many decided not to wait to go out and have a few holes later in the day.

It just proves Orsett does have its own micro climate and weather patterns after all!

Tour news

Rory Versus Jordan in the desert or is it?

The big two face off this week in Abu Dhabi for the opening salver of the 2016 golf season. World No 1 Spieth already has a win under his belt. Rory spends a lot of time not too far away in Dubai, so he will be champing at the bit to get the season started. Playing with them is Rickeee Fowler, my tip for US Masters glory (sorry Rickie) this year. He knows he is ready to prove that he should be part of the upper tier and a Major is all that is missing. The stellar field will make it a birdie fest for sure.

For a bit of value how about Martin Kaymer this week, he loves the desert? Or maybe one of the winning team from the Eurasia cup? Perhaps Chris Wood or Ross Fisher? Fisher is close to his best again, if he can make enough birdies the Surrey man could be in the mix come Sunday. But all eyes will be on Thursday's 7.40 am group, Fowler, Spieth and McIlroy. It will be fun to watch but not quite, Seve, Norman and Faldo is it?

Other news

It's a funny old gameā€¦

Leeds Manager Steve Evans missed the controversy of a disallowed goal at the weekend against Sheffield Wednesday. One of the Wednesday players was taking an age to leave the field trying to time waste. He was taking so long that the ref restarted the game from a free kick before he left the field. Leeds unfortunately scored but it was disallowed because the player hadn`t left the field of play. Evans was caught short in the toilet at the time, missed what had happened and had to ask his number two why all the players were surrounding the ref on his return!

Shop news

New shop additions now on show...

Available for fitting and trial are the latest irons from leading manufacturers PING and Titleist.

PING have sent delivery of their latest creation, the G series, which carries their revolutionary COR-Eye technology which allows the club to be made thinner faced for faster speed from the club face, with greater peripheral weighting to stabilise those off centre hits. Its appearance has changed as the heads have even greater appeal as they have been polished to give a chrome look about them.

Fitting remains the same with 9 lie options and numerous AWT shaft flexes will maintain this as a leader in the golf field. I've shown it to some members and they are very impressed with the style Ping are offering.

Titleist have moved some tungsten about to help increase both the launch capabilities and off centre hits further.

Both the 716 AP1 and AP2 have this new design to aid faster speed from the face and stop to the ball. The AP1 is their longest ever iron, so if distance is something required, this might be for you?

Along with the new irons, now available are the 816 hybrids in two head sizes to aid either penetrating ball flight or a higher softer ball flight. Both are easy to use and add to the demise of the long irons in your bag.

I`m seeing more and more members turn to hybrids. They are just more versatile and as we have seen, many are mastering the art of chipping around the green from all sorts of lie. Something that a 2 and 3 iron could never really give a player.

All can be fitted on our GC 2 Launch monitor, so if you are in the market to start the new season with new clubs take a look at these, you will not be disappointed.

We are also having a mini clearance. This is also a good time to pick up some great value.

We have irons from Mizuno and Titleist, metals from Titleist, with some shoes from FootJoy all at reduced prices.

If it`s brand without price that you like, here's your chance.
